23.12 at 03.58 am 7.2
23.12 at 4.45 pm 9.0
23.12 at 6.50 pm 5.1
the 11.7 was after eating a meal which I know gives a high reading and wont be eating it again,my average before these over 30 days has been 7.2 which I thought was not to bad but these have thrown me out a bit

What you need to be recording is what your eating .. take a blood sugar reading just before you eat then 2 hours after eating.. you are aiming to not rise more than 2.0 after eating .. When you do this and write it all down you can quickly see what is making your blood sugar rise ... hope this helps

Hi, funny as mine are very similar, i'm high in the morning and continue to rise even after i've taken the SR Metformin at breakfast and don't drop until late afternoon, then up again after dinner. I just put it down to my changing metabolism during the day and being diabetic it's more noticeable now i'm measuring it. Even with watching my carbs is this happening

Sorry to hear that you're having concerns over your BG levels.

What meals normally do you eat? Do you have a blood sugar monitor? I use an SD Codefree monitor and I sometimes get different readings at different times.

I would just keep testing before and 2 hours after every meal to see what are causing your sugar levels to jump.

I would personally avoid at all costs bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, any processed ready meals, cakes, sweets, biscuits and takeaway food. This is because these are all very high in carbs. Breakfast cereals aren't great either because they've also carby, so either kick them into touch too or limit how much and how often you have them. I am switching to a vegan diet from the new year and am going to keep my carbs low, it will also encourage me to cook from scratch. Cooked breakfast I think is better as it will fill you up, and if you get it right, won't cause you spikes. That is a strategy I'll be employing. As the saying goes, breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dine like a pauper.

You need your greens, make sure you are eating plenty of leafy green vegetables, limit but don't cut out totally root veg and legumes/nuts (except potatoes, avoid these). You do need your protein and good saturated and unsaturated fats. You also need fruit for it's good vitamins and minerals. But you need to watch this too due to sugar. Best fruits for diabetics are berries.

Good luck to you and hope things work out in the end for you.

Bot74 you just named all the foods I like if I cut them all out it doesn't leave me much to eat?

it doesn't leave me much to eat?

That often appears to be the case initially...but over time we relearn how to eat better. Eating stuff that is less demanding on our dysfunctional brain and pancreas. Allow them some time to rest and heal.

The glucometer is our best friend at this stage...giving us immediate/objective feedback on the food that will impact our glucose level.

Another strange thing here, bad boy last night, had prawn curry and rice, with a small glass of red, test was 9.0 after 2 hours, went to bed, could not sleep, got up at 3am, test was 8.6, thought oh gawd that's still high, but needed a cup of coffee, bit of sugar in it, then test at 6.45 and its down to 6.6, then test at 11am and its 5.7, gee what a mad world I live in

Red wine is fine. Rice is bad. You should avoid sugar completely.

You need to try the low carb program.
