@walnut_face I think you will find the topic is similar .. but this is a different thread.
@asparagusp ... once again the BBC are only connecting increased weight with diabetes. I wish they would get it into their heads that these people are increasing weight by following the NHS eat well plate

I am in that age range, nearly 59 and I keep active, at a good weight for my height ( I am now 4 lbs more than when I was at 20) and feel like I am 15/20 years younger :)

The only problem I have had with weight is when I lost a stone through having a hyperactive thyroid. Otherwise perfect weight with little fluctuation.

I went down to 7st 1 before I was diagnosed with type 1, disliked it when the weight went back on, but I am happy with everything :)

I want to know how the 'sandwich generation' they mention, looking after parents and children, plus working full time, are supposed to have time and energy to exercise? And be Good Parents, and all the other things we are doing wrong in the eyes of the media.

it makes me SO ANGRY that such a heap of unrealistic, ill thought out expectations are used, day after day, to beat us up for not being good enough and any illness being our fault.

It couldnt possible be the fault of the ridiculously stupid and incorrect nutrition info, could it??? (sarcasm intended)

Its hard enough getting through each day, somehow, without then being blamed for not finding mythical time to do other stuff. And how are desk jobs to blame? someone has to do them. Lets make all office workers feel bad, shall we?

And all the people who have to work during lunch to deal with the unfeasible amounts of work they have to get through due to cuts in staffing levels - how are they supposed to feed themselves? and have time, before the long commute, to make sandwiches for themselves when often there is nowhere to store the sandwich when they get to work?

off to kick something - hard.

PS And the guy quotes lost 5 stones in 16 weeks???? not the healthy weight loss level recommended by the NHS! How did he manage that?

I was a carer for my parent ( my elderly dad is now in a care home) plus I had a child at 42 1/2 years ( type 1 for 11 years then) and grandchildren too, so that in all keeps me very active, plus I am a non car driver, do gardening and diy, I still walk a lot and carry and pull food shopping home, but, I do realise this isn't likely to be the norm for many in my age group, because many people drive and have sit down jobs.

Of course they're going to bash the middle-aged - we are the tail end of the Baby Boomer generation so there are more of us - and we have had the longest exposure to the HCLF diet that has been pushed at us for over 40 years. Grrrrrr.
