Hi guys,

I am hoping someone out there can help me...

I am at my wits end with high blood sugars. My previous hbac1 was 7.6, but over the last couple of weeks I am running high all the time! The last few days, I have been waking up with a reading of 5 then 8 a couple of hours later, but my after dinner readings are 13-14 which I am correcting, but they are taking hours to come down.

I am on lantus and apidra and have been following 10g of carbs per 1 unit of insulin. My diabetes nurse increased my evening ratio to 10g of carbs per 1 and a half units and recently 10g of carbs per 2 units. I am injecting 22 to 26 units which I feel like is a lot, but my sugars are still high!

Last night I had TWO hypos. One before bed and one at 5am. I have never experienced two hypos and I was sick as in vomiting after treating the 5am hypo!

Can anyone help me? I am desperate and it feels like this really is the icing on the cake, going around in circles no matter what I do

Could you be ill or coming down with something? I was going to,suggest changing your insulin but as you've had hypos then it looks like it's working.

Have you done a basal test? It's worth checking that's ok and then you can look at your meal ratios. It's not unusual to need different ratios for different meals (ie breakfast, lunch, etc)

I'm feeling nauseous a lot of the time. I had a horrible wave of it last month and then it went away and now it's back again. Has anyone experienced that with their diabetes?

Just in pregnancy and illness for me. Although just recently I had dizziness and nausea but with a history of palpatations I was given bisoprolol for high blood pressure. Have you had your bp checked recently?

I have a BP machine at home and my BP has been normal... I had a miscarriage in October, but don't think the two - nausea and miscarriage - are related :(

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe something is hanging around you but so far youve fought it off. Give your bgs a chance to settledown with any worry. Mine go high when im in pain or exercising stressfully. However i dont have type1. Could a med other than insulin be causing nausea?

I'm taking folic acid, pregnacare and omega 3 tablets as well as metaformin, but I have been taking the metaformin for years...

I occasionally have nausea with a hypo if my BS level has fallen when I've been asleep at night, but the only time I was actually vomiting as well was when I was pregnant. It's down as being a less common/rare hypo symptom, on the NHS Choices site. It's also a real nuisance as potentially dangerous. If it happens again, it might be worth asking about glucagon which can be injected to make your liver release glucose to get you out of trouble. If you are experiencing nausea and low BS, you can do the injection and top up with more carbohydrare to replenish the liver when you feel better.

Two hypos in one night is definitely a nightmare. Hope things will settle down for you now.
