Advice needed on Lantus

Hi, I have a very strange thing going on. I am Type 1 diagnosed a year back. 3 days ago I forgot to tke my Lantus at night, in the morning my sugars was at 5.8 so just kept watching it and it has been hovering between 4.8 and 6.4, which if anything is low, I was expecting it to start climbing but its been 3 days now and last check 30 mins back was 4.8, I don't understand how this can be the case. Any advice or thoughts on what to do going forward?

it sounds to me as though you are experiencing the "honeymoon" period with your Diabetes.

I have copied and pasted the following

The Honeymoon Phase (or Honeymoon Period) amongst people with type 1 diabetes refers to the period of time shortly following diabetes diagnosis when the pancreas is still able to produce a significant enough amount of insulin to reduce insulin needs and aid blood glucose control.

do have a chat with your Diabetes nurse for advice too.

To add to what @himtoo has mentioned, you are a late onset diagnosis, and this frequently results in a much slower destruction of the beta cells as part of an autoimmune attack. As a result, by being on Lantus for a year, you may have reduced the amount of damage done and what you are seeing is that your beta cells are now producing insulin. The downside to this is that when you don't take insulin, the body is more likely to attack them because they are producing insulin. It's an unfortunate catch 22.
 
So from that perspective, it would be wise to continue to take even a small amount of the Lantus> My concern was that as I am "a bit low" on the blood sugar scale that it would push it down. I should add that I have recently started back at work and putting in 10-12 hour shifts so I'm a lot more active than I was until recently. If I start putting insulin in again, my instinct tells me to also up the intake of slow release carbs. Is my logic sound or flawed?
 
What bolus insulin are you taking? If you're taking any, that is, of course.
 
at the moment none, I haven't taken the bolus for about 4 months as I was doing fine with just the lantus
 
Ok :) That does suggest your Type 1 is slow inset then.

What are you eating at meals and what's your blood sugar two hours after the start of your meal?

If I was you, I'd call the DSN just to check what's best to do :)
 
Thanks all for the advice. I'm abroad atm but will check with the DSN when I get back.
