bad manners and inconsideration for others. Relatives who phone all the time and rattle on about nothing! Manipulating types, liars, control freaks, etc etc!
I hate how my feet pain all the time. Arthritis, Diabetes and probably after effects from Chemotherapy.
Hi I take duloxatine and Lyrca together for neuropathy they have found that taken together they work well and they do.

I have been determined to get to the bottom of this problem and find something which helps. A naturopathic chemist researching the problem recommended ALA and Chromium, which I have taken for some years, and if I run out boy do I know it!! I have arthritic problems in hands and feet as well, also have had Chemo in the past, so it is a multiple problem with uncertain specific causes. I am on Metformin ( vit B 12 is necessary with Metformin, Methylcobalamin not Cyanocobalamin) which I will not give up, Meloxicam (for inflammation), turmeric tablets, Magten magnesium, a multivitamin supplement every few days, also Effexor antidepressant which counteracts Chemo chemical muck-ups. Anti-inflammatory gell is great for the feet, and the latest on is Percutane cream which is helping. This is pretty hot so use sparingly! I rarely am troubled at night now. For hands I use my TENS machine in the mornings to unstiffen them...instant relief, and wont go anywhere without it. In cold weather I use a foot vibrating thingo with hot water and soda. Morning pain is worse, so I often take slow relief Panadol Osteo. I have had to learn to keep off my feet when possible, and not feel guilty about neglecting housework! I am 76.
I hope this helps somebody. There is definitely no one only answer yet, but a multi tactic approach is needed.

Hi, i've been a T2Insulin diabetic for 10 years now. and have had neuropathy in both feet for quite some time, been on amitriptyline, gabapentin, lycra ect. nothing has worked.
last night was i think the worst night of my diabetic life with extreme shooting pains so bad i thought i was going mad.
i know they say desperation breeds insanity but lately with nights like this i have been considering other meds that the dr cant/wont give me for pain relief.

does anyone else have neuropathy this bad and feel like your doctor just does not take you seriously? refuses to help and just passes the buck?

what do you peeps take, do, use that actually helps.
Thanks in advance.
I have neuropathy in my feet, such that I have lost most of the feeling and can no long drive, it is has not been as painful as yours although the cramps and pins and needles have been very troublesome in the past, disturbing sleep. But since taking duloxetine I only get the occasional cramps night.

Can I ask you if you had trouble with Duloxetine when you first took it ?
I was prescribed this for my neuropathy but after taking one tablet I felt so ill, couldn't sleep, my eyes were popping out of my head ( which was quite worrying as I have bad glaucoma) I was sick a felt dreadful for the next 2 days curled up in a ball in bed I just couldn't take another one . My doctor did say that I would know within a week if I could tolerate it but it seems it only took a day ! I've tried all the other meds amiltripline and gabpentin so this was my last hope , so dont know what else I could try.

NHS give completely wrong advice.
Hi
I'm a T2 diabetic 20 years plus . . . On Insulin. Have to admit I didn't look after myself properly when first diagnosed and my compliance with meds. was patchy. Now I'm paying the price.
I have the same condition, bi-lateral diabetic neuropathy and fibromyalgia.
My feet hurt like hell, especially at night.
My Pain Clinic prescribe me with Duloxotine 60mgs twice daily (max dose) and
Tramadol 400mgs per day (again max dose) plus Amitriptline 4 times daily.
Does it help ? No, I don't think so. I take the max dose for each medication but no noticeable reduction in pain. I am going to start taking AHA and see if this makes any difference.
My Consultant tells me the nerve damage is irreversible, but to stop it getting worse, only 1 way - keep blood sugar levels in check.
I am now experiencing tingling in my finger-tips of both hands. Referred to a Neurologist - outcome: Peripheral Nuropathy of course !!
If you find the holy grail of pain relief, please let me know :joyful: Good Luck
Hi Sweatpea, sorry to hear about your ongoing problems.... I was diagnosed T2 three years ago (182) and went low carb straight away. I got my HbA1c count down within the normal range within weeks and have kept it there ever since....Low Carb is the only way to keep your BG at a sensible level. No bread, no rice, no potato. no pasta, no sugary foodstuffs at all. Plenty of veg and meats/fish and as an alcohol drink only wine.... Try it, I`m sure it will be worth it to you. You had better ok things with your doctor because you will have to reduce your meds.

To every one writing here, the only way to get any noticeable results is to go Low Carb.
treat yourself to a Dr, Atkins diet book and follow the system. I did it three years ago and have kept in the normal range ever since.......I now keep my daily Carb intake to approx` 30 to 40 carbs a day plus my organic porridge for breakfast made with water and I add about one third of a teaspoon full of organic cinnamon to the porridge which is a low glycemic food and the cinnamon is known to act/assist the insulin in transporting the carbs into the cells .... Hope this helps.

I had the exact same experience. Have tried the usual treatments and I took 2 duloxetine and refused to take another as the side effects were hideous!

Back to square one with my feet.

Hi gillianwrdl, Thanks for the complete run-down on treatments. I am T2, for about ten years now, and my feet are starting to bother me - no real pain, but feeling dead on the bottom. I try to run them over a knarly roller for 5 minutes every night, -- don't know if it helps, but I can imagine that it does. Tell us more about your vibrating thingy; what's it called and what's it like - I think that could be very useful. Also, please tell me what a TENS machine is??

I do not know how bad is bad and to compare pain is a verbal extreme. anyway I have allowed myself to consider sensation in my legs as neuropathy it comes slowly as if have wet myself and normally goes away enough to ignore it if I move position. lately I have had I itch on my skin all over my legs but have had itchy skin all over my back for some months may be a year. it doses not fit into Ignore neuropathy but thinking now it could be.
The answer to your question is a natual tonic called omega 48. it was offered as a semi secret herbal tonic which when first developed was through a dream this chap calle Gordon he wrote down the recipe. he found alsorts of uses one of reduceing and curing cancer. when this leeked out out of the 8 develpoers 4 of them whre killed sub from chemisty retail labs. I have been taking Omega 48 but have run out and think the reacurance of the itching is because the effects are whreing off. Iallso had pain in my shoulders enough to be prescribed stong pain killers I stopped taking them rubbing the Omega on my hands reduced the pain of rumastisam to baer minimum.

Scarborough, can I ask if you take Metformin or any other medications on a day to day basis, such as painkillers or statins?

Dear MrDieselx, My Type 2 Diabetes was discovered originally because I suffered with frightful neuropathy pains in my feet. Eventually, I was sent to see a Consultant Neurologist. I have been on Duloxetine since the last treatment for the neuropathy pains stopped helping me. I take 30 mg in the morning and 60 mg in the evening. The result of this is that my brain does not register the neuropathy pain. I find that the smaller dose of this anti anxiety/depression medicine really works. As with many of this type of medicine its side effects such as a weird sleeplessness at the start of taking it do stop, after a month or so. It is like a miracle to have no pains in my feet. I used to get strong pulsing pains which were like a cross between feeling scalded and violent pins and needles. I simply could not get off to sleep because of them and needed to drop off eventually through total exhaustion. So, if you have not tried this medicine you could ask for a trial, I would start at the lower dose so as to get used to it and then your doctor can decide whether it is a good idea to up the dose later on. Best wishes

I have a more general pain(they not sure what atm 17years of it) problems and find that heat helps a lot and also make insulin work better, going to bed with a electric blanket and reading a good book or playing a good computer game distract from the pain and allows insulin to work as pain causes stress hormones which make you resistance to insulin.

My husband (T1) has neuropathy and fibromyalgia. He takes 100 mg of Duloxetine, Tramadol and chilli cream. He is not totally pain free but he finds the Duloxetine especially effective. Have you been to your hospital pain clinic? They are very good at our local hospital and have helped my husband greatly.

I have a rare manifestation of diabetic neuropathy that affects the nerves in my tongue. I also get it in my on the left side of my body affecting my face and legs. Also starting to get it in my left arm. You need a specialist neurologist to diagnose you. The various medications recommend do help but you may need to consider taking up Mindfulness meditation and/or self-hypnosis to help stop you focusing on the pain. The fatigue associated with diabetes and neuropathy worsens the pain as you brain can't turn off the signals from the nerves and this in turn makes the fatigue worse; the double edged sword.

Hi All - any advice for me? Was diagnosed T2 in Nov and given metformin twice a day and in February one Janouvia tablet latest blood tests show a drop of 50% blood sugar. A week ago I suddenly got dreadful pains in my legs and lower back. So bad I couldn't lie down, A visit to specialist dr yesterday suggests that this condition has been brought on by the sudden large drop in blood sugar!, It would seem it will clear up eventually but how do I carry on my demanding job and my life without sleeping! Have been given pain medication and Lyrica. So far the only things that seem to help are very hot baths and getting up and pacing up and down. Can anyone give me some tips on coping with this? I am ok during the day - pains start around midnight and carry on until my alarm goes off at 0600. What is the best position to sleep in? Cushion under legs? At this stage I will try anything!

Can anyone tell me why my legs get so painful when lying down? When I get up I am stiff and sore for a bit but if I start walking the pain wears off? Although I take a strong pain killer and Lyrica plus a hot bath I only seem to get about 4 hours of sleep before the pain wakes me up .Any tips?

Good advice! I had already instinctively used a pillow between my knees and found it helped. I will try and get some of the alpha lipoic acid. I read somewhere that it is regularly prescribed in Germany. Hopefully things will improve but if not it is just a case of learning to cope with things - the more active I am in mind and body the better it will be!
