SD CodeFree - accuracy

I've had a hunt through the documentation - and I can't find anything that tells me what the expected accuracy of this meter is. Can anyone help?

This meter is ISO certified so it should be accurate to the stipulated standards:

95% of the time:

• Within ± 0.83 mmol/L of laboratory results at concentrations of under 4.2 mmol/L
• Within ± 20% of laboratory results at concentrations of 4.2 mmol/L or more

However - I've got that meter and found it ALWAYS reads about 15-20% higher than the myLife PuraX the surgery gave me.
Also it seems to be really susceptible to variance in the way you sample the blood spot. I wasted almost an entire pot of sticks trying to get consistent results initially.
What I've found best for this meter is the following routine:
1) Wash hands in warm water if possible
2) Do the pin prick
3) Squeeze out a droplet of blood and wipe it away
4) Squeeze out another drop of blood and use that to test with.
5) Try and make sure the blood is sucked up by the strip rather than being forced up (if you can hover the strip in the droplet but not touching your skin.

If the reading seems way out - test again. Sometimes it just seems to go mental (maybe a spec of food or junk or seat got mixed into the blood - who knows!)

My Codefree is always up to 1mmol higher than my other meter. I'll try the tip about leaving the first drop. Im pretty careful about the "sucking up the strip" thing too.

That's interesting.... I do occasionally get an unexpectedly high reading which is almost always corrected by handwashing.

Reason I ask is that I just bought myself a Freestyle Libre sensor and reader, and currently that seems to be reading about 1 mmol/l lower than my CodeFree. Hmm, maybe my control is better than I thought it was.....

Those are the old standards. They changed in 2013 and are now

Under the new standard, meters will need to meet the accuracy guidelines 95% of the time:

• Within± 0.83 mmol/L of laboratory results at concentrations of under 5.6 mmol/L
• Within ± 15% of laboratory results at concentrations of 5.6 mmol/L or more

The 16mmol might have been due to something on your hand at the time. its really important to make sure your hands have just been cleaned
