1st diabetic nurse appointment

Your total cholesterol might go up, and it still be an improvement, as there are lots of things going on if you were to use low carb foods and start to lose weight, fat starts to move around - my waist is shrinking week by week. The important factor is, apparently, the ratio of HDL and LDL, not the total - and triglycerides indicate something too. (You can tell how eagerly I hang on those readings eh?)
If you avoid dense carbs and of course, sugar, there can be dramatic drops in Hba1c - mine gave me quite a shock, but you need to eat to your meter. It really doesn't matter about the actual number, more the trend. If I eat low carb I don't get a big jump from before to 2 hours after, so I fine tuned my carb intake. Then I saw that the numbers were gradually dropping. After a few weeks my numbers became more erratic and would drop lower sometimes - I think that was when my insulin was able to work properly once in a while, and now my numbers jump about wildly, but they are usually at least one whole number lower than for the same meal a while ago, so I count that as making improvements. Now, after 3 months I am using the meter as a guide to if I should eat grapes or not - it is a great help in making that sort of decision but I have got the confidence to eat most meals without the need to check as I know I'll be within normal limits.

Ok ye

Yes I think I will then. Thanks for the suggestion. Would you go private for to find out a cholesterol breakdown in my situation?

I wouldn't bother having a private test. Your total of 5.1 is good, your Trigs aren't very bad and will come down. The rest can wait until your next NHS tests.

I could get it done private for £100 not too crazy if the nhs are unhelpful. The private gp said it's a full lipid profile

Hiya

Well so I just had my 1st appointment. Nurse was like kinda like why am I there and that my diabetes is not that bad haha. Well my hba1c is 58 so she said I could reverse this diagnosis! if I get my hba1c below 48 and she wants to see my in a month.

I got a new monitor from her cause they never had my test strips to prescribe me. Looked like the monitor was used a few times only . The only thing is that my monitor said 6.8 and new one is 7.7 which do I trust ? I just got the new test strips from the chemist for the slightly second hand monitor.

She said 2 hour and before meals was best time to test not 1 hour past.

Also said that it's best to eat anything sweet like my dark chocolate 1 hour after a meal ... that it's called a diabetic cheat.

Any of this sound weird.?

She said my diabetes wasn't that bad ! At hba1c of 58
It's too high.
