One won't hurt you......

If I had a £ for every time I've heard that I'd be rich by now....

At what stage do family and friends accept that you don't want it, aren't going to eat it, would rather stab yourself in the eye with a fork before eating their grubby cakes and pasties?

My Grandad who was my father figure and hero once said to me when I wouldn't eat my veg "you are what you eat son". Now I know what he meant and why he lived on produce he grew in his allotment.

Having brought myself close to the brink of full on type 2 with symptoms, I have absolutely no intention of making progression easy.... Not without a fight, not ever!

I have more energy, I'm sleeping better, I'm eating healthier and I have no intention of letting that slip for the rest of my life....

How do we get through to these people? Without resorting to "go F*** yourself" which is the stage I am reaching if they don't ease off with the encouragement to eat **** and constant criticism of the way I eat...

The way to a relative's heart is through their stomach... generally an upward motion with a very sharp knife.

Alternatively brain them with a rock cake.

keep up your understandeble fight... they´ll never stop ... or just ignore them till they wonder if something is wrong with your ears... just try to look like you didn´t hear them when they say nonsence...

It gets easier. My friends all now know that I won't eat like they do so they don't push it.
They also compliment me on how well I look and how my skin looks like it glows ! ( I'd been dancing, I hope they didn't mean I looked sweaty ! lol )
I think some are tempted by my lifestyle but lack the courage ( going against NHS guidelines ) to go for it

I understand u 100%. Even better that my diabetic grandma tells me that the most, offering sweets etc. it can upset me bad.

People who tell u that dont live with this disease, they tell u some cheats dont matter bcoz u r doing so well. I know everyone is different, u might find it really hard to deal with it but try to make them understand that u chose to live healthy and keep ur diabetes under control. Ask them kindly to respect ur decision.

Tho my twin is kinda dummy, i had to deal with her another way. I injected insulin in front of her before each meal to freak her out a little bit. Its not nice, but shes scared to see needles and it worked anyway. She understood its a bit more serious thing and i dont want her to poke junks in my face.

My wife is very supportive, but she does say I am on an extreme diet!
She also eats bread, cake, ice cream, chocolates, grapes and often asks me if I want one. They are also lurking in the fridge!
But I wouldn't want her to give up anything she enjoys and I have become resigned to the fact that I just don't eat that stuff any more!

We have two fridges - the carby stuff goes in the fridge in the front hall, plus any overflow from the one under the stairs - and salads, as the front fridge is set slightly warmer. It works fairly well - I can go and get celery or salad from the front fridge and resist the chocolate no problem now.

U two sound very sweet, ur wife must be worrying about u a lot. And u saying u still want her to enjoy the food she likes, its very nice of u. (:

My mom always says sorry when she eats bread its funny, she tries to eat them when im not around, or just eats something low carb that i can have too.

My other family members r still stuck at why i need low carbs, but i know they want me to enjoy all the sweets and high carb toxics with them. : D Its important to remember that they r not trying to annoy u when offering food.
I find it very sweet when im not upset about it. (:

I have no easy answers. I also find it hard when diabetic friends give me chocolate and biscuits for Christmas with the comment It's Christmas of course you can eat this now. I wouldn't mind if it was Lindt 90% as I do eat that. Maybe I need to do a lot more education

My husband is very supportive, and he does all the cooking. Occasionally if I ask for something "vaguely naughty" he quizzes me about it, and if I do go ahead and have it, he always asks me what my meter readings were afterwards. He has been like this since the beginning. He also eats a lot of carbs but they have never tempted me, so it doesn't cause any issues. Friends, on the other hand, have learnt not to offer the "one won't hurt you" these days. They used to until I offered to test them after one of their binges. They declined.

Hi Hiitsme, I really enjoy my 2 squares of Lindt 90% every day, one with coffee in the morning and one in the afternoon. Who needs more?

I am so fortunate with my family who live in Ireland ,my grandson aged 18 always cooks day in the week He often makes pizza but I get a wonderful plate made up of cheeses and meats and vegetables He usually makes enough for 3 grown men but I eat it anyway cause he loves me !!We are going again in a couple of months ,can't wait !

About the end of October start to drop hints about the high percentage chocolate bars - just sort of casually so they get the idea...

I have the same problem but with me it's just one drink won't hurt.It possibly won't but occasionally it really upsets my stomach hours later & I end up spending the early hours sitting in the bathroom throwing up & worse.

People do look a bit shocked when you say you are on a high fat diet (low carb high fat). People are so convinced that fat in food is bad and are conned into buying "low fat" foods (which often have fat replaced by sugar which is more fattening).

Most people don't realise just how toxic their diet is and the long term damage they are doing to their body.

It is worth watching the film "Carb Loaded (a culture dying to eat)". See ...
It does give you a lot of useful facts about carbs and diet and present them in quite an amusing style.

I agree, it is hard. My boss, who has a diabetic husband made me a fruit crumble for my birthday. I just thanked her and then put it in the bin when I got home.
