Type 2 Diahhorea

I have had terrible diahhorea all day today, not eaten anything just took the maximum allowed immodium.
B/g level at 10.5 and no improvement in my stomach problem.
Is there anything else I can do to remedy diahhorea and/or sort sugar level?
Am type 2 on metformin.

Thank you in advance for help and advice.
 
I don't take any meds for diabetes but it might be helpful if you explain how long have you been taking metformin, which version and what dosage?
 
First of all .. I see you are on Metformin ? That can have this effect.
If your BG is higher than normal for you, it could be an infection, or something you ate ?
Sorry to say if food poisoning is the case you need to let it work through.. Don't take Immodium... it needs to come out. :(
Drink lots of water, if it's really bad you might need some salt too .. Bovril possibly ?
 
Metformin is well known to cause tummy and bowel problems, although these usually disappear after a week or so. There is a slow release version that is kinder on the stomach, so if you think it is the Metformin you could ask your GP to prescribe the slow release.

EDIT Post crossed with yours. It doesn't sound like the Metformin then.

Keep well hydrated - loads and loads of water and some salt

Have you had an extra carby meal today ? or any problems like this with the Metformin before ?
Hubby takes Metformin and has been known to have rare bouts of diarrhea if he eats too many carbs
 
I have eaten nothing at all today, just drank gallons of water. Not sure on b/g levels as I had to buy my own and only got it yesterday..
 
Your BS levels are bound to be raised, and there is nothing much you can do about this. It is best to forget about them and concentrate on getting better. You don't want any more stress. Hopefully you will feel better tomorrow. x
 
Ty. Great to know there are people to help. Although I have had t2 for over 2 years I have just been told to take pills and been left to fend for myself.
Not seen a dietician or anything. Asked for an appointment with the diabetes nurse and was told there are none til after the may bank holiday!!
 
Is there anything we can help you with? Diet? Testing? All you have to do is ask.

Have you been having the annual retinal eye screening and foot checks? How often do you get blood tests?
 
I had one blood test last year. Foot check once. Eye test no.
I am very confused if I'm honest of diet, nurse said low carb diet is dangerous and told me to do slimming world.

She laughed when I got upset on being diagnosed and basically told me t2 is self inflicted
 
It sounds to me like you need a change of surgery. Is this possible for you?

The NICE recommendations state that T2 diabetics should be put on a register and on a care pathway. That includes an annual eye check, an annual foot check (usually done by the nurse), 3 monthly blood tests initially, reducing to 6 monthly once levels and medication are stable, then annually once all is well. The blood tests should include HbA1c, kidney and liver functions, and cholesterol. You should have at least an annual review with a nurse, if not 6 monthly.

Your nurse sounds like someone out of the dark ages. She is wrong about the low carb diet. She is wrong about Slimming World. She is very wrong that it is self inflicted - and even if it were, she has no business judging. Her job is to care, not judge.
 
I am planning on a change of surgery yes. I will do some research on low carb diet.

I've been on the LCHF diet for 3 years. I feel fitter than I've done in a very long time. Lost 2 stones. Cured my fatty liver. lowered my cholesterol and my Hba1c is 48 at last test which is only just in the diabetic range. I'm often told how well I look. how good my skin is. An old friend I hadn't seen in a while said I actually have a glow now :)

Hi. Yes, your nurse belongs to the dark ages so refuse to see her. If you do have even occasional bowel issues I would ask for the Metformin to be changed to the SR (Slow Release) version.
