Afternoon all.

I was just wondering if anyone uses Toujeo as their basal insulin?

I had an appointment with my DSN this morning, due to severe Dawn phenomenon and insulin resistance she's suggesting I change to Toujeo.

I was just wondering if anyone has seen a benefit of the switch?

Thanks in advance,
Kim

I started Toujeo as my first basal insulin in June (or July?) 2016, without bolus but with oral meds. As of Jan 2nd I'm on a bolus/basal regime.

My fasting values are great in the mornings and I have very good control, with virtually no nightly hypos or hypers. I do experience dawn phenomenon, but my first waking values are consistently around 6.0 or lower because the Toujeo catches the small rises I experience. They start to creep up after I wake up and get active though, so I double my bolus insulin for breakfast.

The Toujeo works perfectly for me. It doesn't stop DP for me, but it does seem to curb it enough to give me a good headstart in the mornings. :)

I think @DaftThoughts might use it.

How did they say it would help DP?
She literally just said that the insulin is stronger...
It was also suggested that I use a GLP twice per day too (to slow down how quickly the stomach empties and to try and give me tighter control).
My DSN is going to raise it with the consultants at a meeting on Tuesday so I should know if I'm changing by the end of next week.

Thank you @DaftThoughts.

Sounds as though it's benefiting you :) I'm just reading through some information on Toujeo just now. Hopefully if I get changed it'll help me too.
I'm not expecting a miracle but even a small improvement would be a big help.

I don't know if it's 'stronger', I have no personal experience with other basal insulin. I just know that my DSN prefers to prescribe it because most of her patients noticeably improve their control when making the switch, and experience less nypos.

I have absolutely no complaints myself, it's a wonderful basal insulin that does exactly what it needs to do. Everyone is different of course, but there shouldn't be any harm in switching to Toujeo and seeing how you're doing over the course of 1-2 months. :)

Yeah I completely agree, it wouldn't do any harm to give it a go :)
