Hello I'm a total noob to this forum so I apologise in advance if this gets asked a lot.

See attached for my recent blood results. I'm on metformin twice daily at maximum dose (slow release), and lingaliptin once daily, 5mg.

Am I right in thinking my results here are in normal range? I was told no further action required, but I'm a bit confooozled. I figure I'm in that range BECAUSE I'm medicated and follow a really good diet, but with that range should I possibly ask for a review of my meds?

I ask because I find when I stand up, my head goes dizzy almost constantly, and I also feel like reconstituted **** most days. It should also be noted that I've recently accidentally lost 17.5KG. I wasn't really even doing anything, my appetite just decided to go on holiday or something. D:

Please and thank you in advance.

@laudanum welcome to the forum. An HbA1c of 40 is indeed a 'non-diabetic' reading. That does not necessarily mean your are not diabetic. I think it would be a good idea to ask for a review of your medications. I would also mention your dizzy spells (although that might have something to do with Blood Pressure)
If you have not deliberately set out to loos weight that might be a concern, however if you have not been eating as much that would probably explain it. However if there is NO explanation it might require further investigation

The metformin is responsible for your lack of appetite. It was originally a drug developed to help folks lose weight (because it suppresses the appetite - not to mention the other rather unpleasant GI problems that it can produce). I'd agree with Walnut Face, get it checked with the docs - you may need your metformin dose dropping - because you have lost so much weight you will be more insulin sensitive than you were before and may well need a lower dose. Either way you need to talk to your doctors.

Laudanum - Which meds do you take? If you take Metformin it does suppress the appetite for some people, resulting in weightloss. Similarly, I do think that we sometimes lose because we are eating better, and usually eating more mindfully. By that I mean, we think about what we'll eat, rather than opening the cupboard/fridge or whatever and just grabbing the first thing to eat without thinking.

Many of us have found our bloods have improved when we have trimmed up a bit, because our insulin resistance has probably got a bit better.

Regarding your feeling giddy; I would suggest you ask your Doc to investigate that. Some folks find as they trim up and their bloods come into order their blood pressure reduces a bit, and if you're taking any BP meds, you may be taking a bit much, now you're a good deal lighter (Fab weight loss!).

The giddy feeling isn't necessarily diabetes related, so best to have it checked out. Your Doc is likely to want to run some meds just to check various things out, including thyroid function.

Hi - thanks for the response :)

Metformin hasn't ever actually reduced me appetite, I've been on that since 2014 and I was HOPING it would have that effect on me, but nooooo. The loss of appetite thing is fairly recent like the last three months. I'm going to call the doctor later on when I'm back home from faffing about outside.

I'm on metformin and lingaliptin - I think it's in the top of me initial post. I do also take a low dose of ramipril, so I will ask for general human MOT asap. I'm clearly not functioning within required efficiency.

Thank you :)

I am rather concerned to be honest, I mean I've always had a healthy appetite with a very controlled diet, but my genes sadly were always going to curse me with diabetes. All the women in my family get it eventually, it's a right pain in the wotsname. Thank you :)

Morning @laudanum . Feeling dizzy on standing up - postural hypotension, is a fairly classic side effect of ramipril - an ACE inhibitor. Drinking a little more could help, but probably you would benefit from GP's advice and BP review.

Sorry I missed your diabetes meds in your initial post, but agree with you that a general check-over makes all sorts of sense.

Hello! I actually drink plenty of fluids, so I THINK I've got that covered but I think you're probably right on the other count. I basically rarely drink alcohol, and I stay away from sodas and energy drinks because ICK and also I don't want the jitters. I allow meself one cup of coffee a day with xylitol (any more than that and it ramps my anxiety), and the rest of the time I guzzle water and no added sugar cordials. Thanks :)

How long have you been on the treatment ? Your doc should always be reviewing your treatment plan...if your A1c goes lower then perhaps they can reduce your medications. A weight reduction generally helps in the overall management too. You may find your next A1c reading even better...normal is under 38. Don't be afraid to challenge your doc...and question your treatment !
