Seriously, you could try hosting a static event at a venue like a community hall or back room of a pub?

For instance, landlords & pub managers are quite happy to just benefit from the bar proceeds, allowing no outlay for room rental. (Infact on one occasion, one particularly "hard nosed" landlord threw the meagre sum we would have paid into the bucket.)
Local bands donating their time & gear to just play & raise awairness & proceeds from door entree fees & bucket donations.
I've been involved with stuff like this for JDRF, prostate cancer...

You will need a permit to collect money on the street in most town centres, it isn't something you can just decide to do.
