Today was for me, the last straw. I have asked repeatedly not to be left on shift on my own as it is stressful and does not help with diabetes management.

I was on shift from 10:00 am, 4 people started the shift. At three, i was told someone would be starting at 4:30pm, i then find the person who was with me was told to take an hour break at 3:50pm, leaving me alone for 40 minutes during a particularly busy part of the shift with no support. At no time was i advised of this situation, nir was any precautions taken to assist me in this period.

I have been altering my shifts at frequent intervals and have even skipped insulin injections during busy shifts. I have been ill frequently and still turned up for shifts when others simply decided to call in sick.

I am now speaking to the union delegate for more advice on what to do in this situation. I am truly fed up with this.

Any possibility you of looking for another job Leslie? Not necessarily in the same role.

So where are all the staff? Are they meant to be there....?

Do you get hassle of customers when its busy....?

I would be speaking up about this....have you spoke to the manager...?

Sorry for my lack of understanding @leslie10152 , but is there a reason why you are unable to be alone? Is it because you are type 2, or is it because there is too much work for 1 person? If it's just because there is too much work, can you not just raise it to your manager(s) and continue to complete what is reasonably achievable by one person.

Is there a reason as to you why you don't want to be left on your own ?. Is it working on the deli, serving customers, I used to do that and on the bakery too, in Sainsbury's from 1984 to 1994, An hour's break would be extreme, ours was 15 mins and obviously more for lunch. I would speak up and see the HR or your line manager. Edited to say, or is it in a warehouse environment?
Unfortunately diabetes as a medical condition can't be seen, unlike a broken arm.
Here is a useful link :- All the best.

Breaks. The general rule on breaks is that you are entitled to a break of 15 minutes after a 4 ½ hour work period. If you work more than 6 hours you are entitled to a break of 30 minutes, which can include the first 15-minute break.5 Oct 2015
