Type of diabetes
Type 2
hello all,

I'm a 45 yo Brit (by birth), Canadian (father), American (mother) living across the pond in Rochester, NY USA living with Type 2 controlled. On insulin, orals and use a Continuous Glucose Monitor. Diagnosed 2011, a1c 12 in 2014, now 6.5. I'm also a mindful intuitive eater and am in recovery from binge eating disorder.

Am interested in networking with everyone, but especially other LGBT folks with diabetes. My partner of 17 years is Type 2 uncontrolled and is living on disability and disability retirement pension. Very hard to watch her health decline. I'd also say 60-75% of the womyn we know in our community are of size/diabetic or headed there. All social activities revolve around potlucks, dinners etc. i.e. Food.

Thanks for your input. Glad to be here

Welcome @DressyFemme :)

There are a number of LGBT people here and you'll find the forum a diverse and tolerant place :)

Hi and welcome to the forum..

I'm so glad to hear that. I'm a Femme partnered to my butch partner 17 years this year. We run a dinner group for BF folks and allies and no one talks openly about their health concerns except for hospital visits/big issues. I have yet to meet another couple who are diabetics. I hope we can resurrect the LGBT community here online. Nice to meet you!

:D
I am from Lincolnshire, UK (thats on the East coast, half way down England).

Yup I know where you are. I was born in Leeds and spent many childhood vacations in the U.K. I lived with an ex partner for 3 1/2 years in Sunderland Tyne & Wear from 1989-1991. I so miss England especially English teas and British food!

Hi @DressyFemme and welcome to the forum from me too. You will find a lot of good advice and support from the people on here.:)

I'll invite her but she prefers the world of Facebook, FB Messenger and Scrabble chat. Lol. If she is interested I'll show her the app/site...
There is a FB group, entirely unrelated to this forum, called type 2 diabetes rebels. It advocates low carb eating as an approach to dealing with T2. Maybe it's something she could look at.
