Hi please could someone help, I have an adult daughter who has learning disabilities and diabetes, she has started a new medication and for the first time is experiencing hypos, she is finding this very scary but her little dog has started barking at her when her sugars are low, my daughter is scared to go out without her little dog but of course there are places she can not take her. I have heard of medical alert dogs but am trying to find out if your own dog can be registered for this or does it only apply to specially trained dogs many thanks

Welcome @Mumneedshelp :)

I believe the exemptions only apply to officially registered and trained dogs.

Has she spoken to her doctor about the medication and hypo problem and got advice?

What insulin regime is she on? It may be that adaptations to that can help with the hypo problem. She shouldn't be afraid to go out : (

I am not sure about the legal side, but in practice you can get a jacket or lead for the dog which prominently says "Service Animal" or something similar and most people won't think twice.
