Glucose Tablets vs Jelly Beans

I use Dex4 glucose tablets to ward off hypos as they give more precise dosage than jelly beans. Too many times I have rebouned into high levels from jelly beans or other items during a hypo, which is damned annoying.
I buy the mini packages of Skittles. One little package is 16g carbs in the form of sugars, 18 g carbs total. They're way easier to carry around than a stick or container of glucose tabs and usually cheaper too. Being prepackaged I know exactly how much I'm taking every single time.

It should make no difference, providing you're taking the same quantity of carbs from each product.

There is roughly 5g carbs per jelly baby and 4g carbs per dextrose tablet (brand 'Dex4') in question.

EDIT - I see I've misread your post... Do you have a specific jelly BEAN product that you use? As there are that many different types of jelly beans, it's possible for them to have widely varying carb contents.

Are you having quite a lot of the 'sweets' because a hypo can make you feel very, very, hungry and want to stuff everything down, including the contents of a fridge ?

ps I couldn't view the link :-

With the tablets I don't that insane need to eat. Two tablets and I settle.

Jelly babies sounds like a good idea: as they are not medical tablets, I assume they are cheaper.
However, they contain gelatin which is not suitable for vegetarians.
Another thing to consider is no one else wants to eat your dextrose.

What do you mean by this: Another thing to consider is no one else wants to eat your dextrose.?

Had me foxed for a moment, but I think she meant if your rescue remedy is in sweets form, hungry people may see them and want to eat them. It's happened to my Jelly Babies (yes, wifey, I'm talking about you !)

When I had sweets to treat a hypo, I was once asked to shave my sweets. Dextrose looks like medicine so no one suggests I hand them around.
This has only happened once but did make me wonder what others thought we they saw me eating sweets as I try not to make a fuss when I have a hypo.

I love jelly babies BUT I love my grandkids far far far more. Consequently it's a never ending maternity unit in my kitchen cupboard. Strangely though if I'm low both kids seem to know and don't even ask for a jelly baby, if I'm not low then it's open season. (2 max though) for each of them.

The insulin dependant diabetics I know here in Australia, get there Jelly beans from a pharmacy. They are Glucojel brand and come in 1 kg or a smaller purse size bag.
