Hi,

My son's blood test results just came in. Meeting endo tomorrow, but I am so anxious to see what these results mean. I think these are fine results, but I need some confirmation. I will list the results from the time of diagnosis, 6 months ago and today's ones.

January: June:
HbA1c 12.05% HbA1c 5.8%
Insulin <2.00 Insulin 14.85
C-Peptide 0.580 C-Peptide 0.916
TSH 1.4 TSH 3.13
T4 0.94
Anti-TPO <10 Anti-TPO 18
FT4 16.1
FT3 5.84

Thanks,

Hi. Most of the results I don't understand but the latest HBa1C is brilliant and almost non-diabetic. The HBa1C test measures your average blood sugar over the previous 3 months. The higher c-peptide and insulin shows there is more insulin in the blood which is probably good assuming the c-peptide reading is in a good range (every test lab uses different measures for this test which makes it difficult to comment on it)

These are quite interesting. They indicate an increase in insulin production since his last tests. I assume he is still honeymooning, you are giving insulin and eating relatively low carb? It's not often you see that in younger onset and is more often seen in LADA type diagnoses.

The other values are all Thyroid indicators, which seem to suggest that his thyroid is fine.

Yes, six months since diagnosis, I guess he is deep into his honeymoon. Taking as little as 1 unit of insulin 4 times a day.
However, his antibodies test came negative, so there might he a chance he's not actually type 1, but MODY, if I haven't been misguided. Anyways, waiting for the genetic analysis to come in as well.
