Banned & unemployed

I have been refused a new license by DVLC & am no longer driving. I'm in a panic because the nearest supermarket is 5miles away. I'm a very unfit 57 year old. I'm worried about feeding myself now & am looking for any help in the Poole area as to getting food and insulin supplies. Can anybody help?? I live alone BTW
It appears to me your best bet is to purchase a push bike, either new or secondhand to get around on.

It is what I would be doing if I was in the same position.

My GP is very good, he's been sending the insulin via the pharmacy & delivered to my home address. Not sure if he will continue this, doesn't solve the food supply problem though.
There's an online chemist called "Pharmacy 2-U". You ask your doctor to send them your prescriptions (instead of to the chemist) and they post you your meds.

Hi sorry about your problems maybe try adult services in your area part of social services if you aren't eligible for any direct help such as washing and dressing they may be able to signpost you to voluntary services that can help you with things like shoppinghope this helps tizzy

I'm not ashamed about claiming benefits, although they won't start paying the interest of my mortgage for nine months! But even getting to the jobcentre is problematic. The nearest bus stop is too far for me to walk (I'm phyisicaly very unfit & need to be near a toilet)
Is there a neighbour or friend that would be able to take you into town.

No where to store one where I live. I live in a first floor flat.
I'm not in receipt of any benefits. Apparently my redundancy was just over the threshold for getting any. I'm having trouble getting into town anyway because of my physical abilities (it's about 3 miles away)
Is there a community bus in your area where you can book in order to get into town. These only cost the price of a bus fare

My nearest family is my daughter who lives in Canada. My type 1 is very badly controlled since being made redundant
I understand your diabetes is badly controlled at the moment because of your redundancy, but you can change that

Am just thinking here.
For me, I have very poor bladder control which has issues with me being out. I then use pads in case of accidents so your problem can be resolved.
I do feel that you are feeling everything is a no no at the moment.
But please believe me, there are ways of getting around these obstakles

I'm sorry if this comes across as being blunt, but I have a tendency to speak my mind. The feeling I get from your responses are that you have conceded defeat, as you have come up with a reason not to do everything that has been suggested.
So how about a new approach?
You need a plan, and unfortunately you have to create one now... because, without getting help for your food, insulin, and medical help for your toilet issues, the future isn't very bright. However, you are the one person that can change this outlook.

Firstly, the insulin issue is a non-issue. Many chemists will deliver prescriptions. Call your local chemists, set up an arrangement, voila. They'll pick it up from your GP, fulfill it, bring it to your house.

If finance is an immediate issue, then you need to speak to your GP about the Foodbank. He can refer you. It may also be worth phoning the foodbank directly as they will be able to advise... the telephone number is 01202 669566.

I've been a volunteer with the RVS (Royal Voluntary Service), and they will help you with shopping if you just need someone to go and get it for you. The Dorset and Wiltshire Hub Telephone number is: 01305 236666.

There are all kinds of community transport services in the Poole area. Check out this link:
http://www.poole.gov.uk/transport-and-streets/public-transport/community-transport-service/

Once you get on top of controlling your basic problems, then think about getting out and about a little more every day... even if you walk down the street and back. Right now you have the ideal opportunity to improve your level of fitness. You don't need to do much, just get moving and stay moving.

All of this is really down to you and your willingness to face your hurdles head on. There's many, many people here in this group who have faced similar hurdles and are offering help to you because they know precisely the kind of things life can throw at us.

Simon, I am going to be blunt, to the point and very honest here. You and others may not like this.
I use me as an example.
In 2003 I lost my job, had to go onto jobseekers, then onto sickness benefit. Am still on benefits.
In spent and spent, got into thousands into debt. That has now just been paid all back.
Found out I was type2 in 2014. Was grossly over weight, very unfit where I got knackered walking just a few steps.
In live in a village where no shops and cost alot using the bus. Then found I had bipolar. At this point I spiralled out of control. My diabetes suffered. I have now turned things round by losing weight, yes still overweight but lost 7 stone and still get slightly knackered.
Now to date, I do my shopping online with Asda, saving me money using taxis and buses. Get my meds delivered and can honestly say now things are so much easier. I still get days where I feel sorry for myself but that's life. We all cope in different ways.
You have alot to deal with at the moment and I feel that with the help from me and others here, that you may feel that we are getting at you.
But please believe me, these things may never gp away but once you change the odd thing, then these will feel easier

@Simon Ban You mention pancreatitis and toilet issues. Have you spoken to your GP about the toilet problems?

It seems to me, that if you could get that issue sorted, then you'd be able to get a bus more easily. You could then use the library computers to shop online or just shop in the shops as normal.

I cannot shop as 'normal' life isn't normal now I cannot drive. Yes I've spoken to my GP about the toilet issues & he prescribed some pills which didn't work.

Lots of people don't have cars or can't drive for various reasons. I can see why carrying a lot of shopping on a bus would be hard, so online shopping might be the answer. That's what I do as I currently don't have a car.

If you had pancreatitis, are you lacking some digestive enzymes? What pills were you prescribed by the GP? Have you seen a consultant about your toilet problems? If you need enzymes, then there are drugs that might improve things for you.

There are always ways - I don't drive live in a small village with no proper shops except a couple of takeaways, I am housebound by proxy as I have a special needs son who just will not leave the house and finds it impossible to use public transport. But I have had to find ways round here things and you need to too.

You have been given a number of solutions to every problem, I do empathise with you and yes it's very hard but just a couple of small steps can and will change your life - but only you can do this all the advice, solutions, ideas in the world won't help you if you don't a least try to implement some of them.

You say you have no internet access but you've done alright this weekend you could have done some shopping - Tesco allow you to do orders three weeks in advance so if you got 30 minutes on your neighbours computer you could do your shopping for the next three weeks - they don't take payment until your delivery is on its way so you won't have to pay up front

Do you think you may also be depressed, depression is often one of the reasons we can't motivate ourselves or begin to get ourselves out of situations- maybe speak to your GP - your health problems need some attention so you can live a life that you deserve

I got made redundant a few months ago then the stress of the outstanding mortgage, finding a job & unusual food (I was staying with my elder sister at the time) made my BG very high, subsequently I had very bad result from the diabetic clinic & not long afterwards the optician who said my eyesight had failed due to retinopathy. The retinopathy had been getting worse year by year.
My brother-in-law had his licence revoked but as soon as he got his diabetes under control he successfully reapplied for it. Your priority is to get control of your diabetes urgently.

@Simon Ban - You mention you were made redundant, and are now unemployed. Was you r redundancy due to your license being revoked, or was it "just one of those things, like a corporate restructure?

Are you signing on ?

How long have you been taking the pills for anxiety and depression and do you mind sharing which ones you tried and for how long? some of us, including me, have been on several at various times and may be able to suggest something helpful.

Unfortuantly not. I'm ashamed to admit that my work was my mainstay of friends. I've been a loner most of my life. I don't even know the names of most of my neighbours
Nothing to be ashamed of being a loner.
I am a loner and prefer it that way
