Lantus

Also how many times a day should I be finger testing? Nurse said the dr surgery where I get my test strips from may start to querie my repeat prescriptions.

Im probs testing 9-10 times a day. Is this too much?

If they do query your repeat just remind them of the following:

9-10 times a day sounds good, once your confident and settled into a routine you can ease-up should you choose, on MDI I tested anywhere from 6-8 times a day.

Cheers. I've had no issues so far and when I order my strips electronically I always put a message regarding testing more because of driving and work as well as being new to insulin.

Is it ok to put some of my info on here to show people how the food I have just ate has affected me?

Before my meal I was 5.8 mmol
I took 2 units of novorapid.
Had half a spicy pizza and a handful of oven chips.

I will test again two hours after my first bite.

Personally I think my readings will be over 15 mmol as 2 units plus my broken pancreas wont be enough to cover the food.

Cheers

I bet you're right on the 15 mmol guess. I'd be taking 10-12U Novolog for something like that. If I eat just 2 slices thin crust pizza nothing else I take 6.

I was 5.8mmol before my tea. Injected 2 units of novorapid and two hours after eating I'm 13.1.

So probs 3 units may have covered it. Poss as im new to this.
Another thing my lantus may have started to run out as I take 4 units of that at 8.30pm.

Easiest way to find the answer is to do a basal test @Jc3131

Basal testing can be a pain but worth the effort IMHO.

13.9mmol 3 hrs after eating. Ive ate too many carbs. Might go for a walk to burn some of it off

Did a brisk walk and at 10.10pm I was 8.5. Feel a bit better its lower.

I ended up being 9.2 before bed and waking i am 5.6. So back to normal levels.

My test showed me that I ate too many carbs for my 2 units.

Im goimg to do the same tonight, but less of a carbfest.

During the honeymoon you will be making some of your own insulin that will gradually help 'correct' things if you go out of range. Have you not been shown how to adjust your Novorapid for the amount you are eating? I'd push for this if you can so you have some more freedom in food choices.

This was the first time ive used my novorapid insulin. So I was told just to try two units. Any issues and I can ring the diabetic dept at the hospital.

That's good if you have support from the team at the hospital and if your honeymoon is that strong that you don't have to use the rapid much. :)

If you counted the carbs and knew your imsulin to carb ratio, you'd have been ok. You can ask your team, or simply eat the same meal again with a slightly increased amount of insulin. That's a simple way to find the right dose.
