Type 1 is my sister diabetic?

hi guys this is quite random, but has been bugging me a bit! my sister is in her late 20's and I've seen her a few times in the last few weeks and she is going to the toilet (weeing) almost every ten minutes, which I find insane!!

when my bloods were high for a long period of time during my "rebellious" phase I also went to the toilet very regularly, she thinks it's just because she drinks a lot of water, which is true she does but I've mentioned you might be thirsty because you have high blood sugars and the pancreas isn't working correctly. ( I know, way to be morbid haha )

I know I'm probably thinking too much into it, but my grandad and all 4 sisters are diabetic (and me obviously) so it definitely runs in our family, do you think this is worth checking out?? Thankyou in advance, I hope you're all having a beautiful Wednesday! X

Weeing a lot is certainly one of the symptoms of diabetes (https://www.diabetes.org.uk/diabetes-the-basics/diabetes-symptoms).
I am sure it also the symptom of other illness and doing it every 10 minutes is excessive.
If diabetes is common in your family, I guess you have one or two BG meters around. Is it possible to convince your sister to do a BG test .... just to shut you up if nothing else

Helen beat me to it, get her to do a finger prick blood test just to stop you from bugging her about her drinking and weeing habit!

She may also be scared and trying to deny that she has followed the rest of the family into a life of diabetes so treat her carefully.

Judging what you've said I suggest you prepare yourself for helping her out and showing her the ropes sadly.

It may or may not be but if it is then it would be better to catch it early so if it just means a quick BG test then that would be best - however it may just be water overload, as long as she's happy to do a test then it's the easiest way to check

Agree with the others, a painless finger prick test will give an indication of whether her symptoms are due to hyperglycemia or not.

Nonetheless, a doctor will be the only person to confirm or dispell diabetes as the reason for her frequent thirst and regular toilet visits.
