Type two, help needed

Type 2
Hi I was diagnosed type 2 just over two years ago and prescribed 2000mg slow realwase metformin.
HB1c was 36 when diagnosed, down to 29 after 12 months.
Bought my own glucose testing machine as the GP didn’t think I needed one.....it’s been invaluable in finding the foods that cause a spike for me (bananas, seedy bread, mashed potatoes mainly) and foods that I can eat (some fruits, green veg, fish, chicken, pork scratchings)
I had a bout of feeling depressed and bursting into tears for no reason six months ago so the GP reduced my dose to 1000mg.
Glucose levels up slightly from 6-8 most of the time to 9-11.
In August was diagnosed with angina so put on statins, aspirin and beta blockers as well. Two weeks ago I had a very traumatic angiogram and my glucose readings continue to be out of kilter. First ting they are not below 10-12, after a breakfast of scrambled egg and nothing else they are still 8-11 at lunch time.
My gut reaction would be to increase the metformin myself and see how it goes for a week.
The practice nurse is next to useless and the GP needs booking four weeks before you need to go......I am going next week.
Any help would be great.

Could you clarify, please. You were diagnosed as Type 2 with an A1c of 36? Then lowered it to 29?

Statins have been shown to raise blood glucose levels. Metformin does little to lower blood glucose levels and is prescribed to aid the lowering of liver dump, as a mild appetite suppressant and to give a measure of protection to the organs. Do not tinker with your meds without first discussing it with your GP.

Thanks for the reply, the HB1c did drop from 36 to 29 at the end of eight months hard work.
I’m eating the same now but glucose levels are higher........mornings particularly high, even when I get them down to 6 before bed.
Wonderd about increasing metformin back to its original dose as the glucose levels were lower on that even when the mood swings were worse.
I’ll probably wait out the week until I see the GP

Thanks, I think I’ve just about sorted the diet (health and nutrition teacher) but still finding odd foods that just don’t work for me.......more confused as to why glucose levels are so high when I’m eating the same......

Hi Guzzler I do try to help if I can but though I've been type2 for 17 or so years I'm not on diabetic meds just diet controlled and I've found the advice and help on here fabulous when I was diagnosed there was very little help and advice I was put on metformin 500 mg twice day and blood pressure tablets but I managed to reduce my weight and was taken off them about 8 years ago. I found this site around 2 years ago and haven't looked back, put a bit of weight back on over years but maintained BG levels. Doing low fat diet and watching carbs and I am now 4 lb from the weight I want to be.
You are doing really well and it's nice to see this, you are now able to advice and help others who need it so again I say thank you
Keep up the good work .K

I am flummoxed, I have checked and rechecked the
