Carb Counting

Hello,

I have a question about fibers when counting carbs, I live in France and on the back of the product it says 18g of carbs, of which fibres: 9g (just an example I came up with).
Now my question is: should I subtract them and bolus for 9g of carbs?

I've read something about Atkins who tells us to subtract them but then I also read that thta's only in America?
I'm a bit confused.

Thanks

I am in Canada and we have to subtract fiber from the carb count. If the fiber count and the sugar count add up to the total carbs or close to it that means you have to subtract the fiber.

In the UK fibre is already deducted from the total carb count given on food labels. So, we wouldn't see a label that says "carbs x, of which fibres y" because those fibres have already been deducted.

In the US food labelling doesn't work like that and there is a need to deduct fibre from carbs to get the correct total carb value.

I've no idea how food labelling works in France, but the example wording of a label you've given suggests that you do need to consider deducting fibre. Perhaps there may be some forum member familiar with food labelling in France who will be able to assist.

If the label says they are included then yes I would deduct them. As long as its clear by the label whether in or out , then I would follow the label.
