struggling big time

Well done @ally1 for standing your ground. I just cannot believe your surgery!! It beggars belief.

Just make sure you write down everything you want to say to the practice manager. Try to anticipate some of his replies and have some replies of your own prepared. It is easy to be thrown off course if you get an unexpected response. If I were you I would take someone with you so you have a witness. Have a you a friend or neighbour you could persuade to accompany you? Or the CPN? Someone from Citizens Advice? Please don't leave the room until you have all the answers you want and a plan of action for your care.
I Don, t know anyone that can come with me.
I doubt anyone from the cab would be able to come

Well, @ally1 - At long last you have the opportunity to sit down and explain how you find dealing with the surgery. Well done for getting that bit done. It must feel like you've climbed Everest several times getting to this point.

I agree with @Bluetit1802 that you take some notes with you. Even if it's just a list of the things that it is important for you to say. No matter how good our memories are those meetings are always stressful, and you want to be able to make your points and listen to what he has to say, rather then just concentrating on the other things you want to fit into your time with the man.

Can I suggest you do a couple of things? I suggest that when you get into the room and sit down you make sure he sees you get your list/notes out. That will help him understand that you have things to say and they're important to you.

Don't feel uncomfortable to have a quick look at your notes as you go along, but when the meeting is drawing towards a close, take a moment to properly read through your notes and ensure you have covered what you wanted to. If he tries to move things along, I would just tell him this is your meeting to resolve your issues, so you would like to ensure you have covered everything on your list.

One final thing is the Practise Manager may not have a medical background, so he may not be familiar with particular drugs or protocols, but sure as heck, he is responsible for the smooth running of the surgery, so if he needs to take notes of everything you're saying then, so be it.

Well done for getting this far Ally, and with all parties still alive! I'd have wanted to throttle someone weeeellllllll before now.
Thank you

@ally1 do have a thyroid blood test done just in case the meds you are taking are having an affect on your thyroid making it a bit under active which will affect weightgain and cause sugar levels to increase.
It's the thyroid test that bothers me, well not so much the blood test.
On the letter it says, long term health condition blood test. Whenever I get that, it means my annual diabetic blood test. I can,t understand why, because I Don, t have thyroid problem

Put that query in your notes to be asked hun. I hope their recent training is going to benefit everyone.
If I lived nearer I would come with you but I just cannot travel at mo. :(
Take a Dictaphone if no accompany hun but tell practice manager your intentions to record. Well a mobile phone is a Dictaphone these days but check if your phone has a limit to a recording and you have enough memory to store the recording?

I have noticed you have gone higher lately , I am too have gained 17 kg. So anoying So I Think I know How bad you feel ,it is so hard to change everything in one turn , so maybe do a little difference every day maybe just change breakfast the first comming week , I’ll be with you in that because I really need to put my spoon in the other hand now too if you cant manage that Then maybe eat a cucumber everyday and a few carrots it fills the stomach and take the place for other more unhealthy foods , I also boil the whole packet of eggs so I can easily eat a whole egg and just some slices of cheese or cheese sticks made from a Big cheese just cut into pieces.
And Ally keep posting it is Healthy to share feelings with others sometimes They become half as heavy as when not sharing with others

Yes @ally1 and @Freema . I'm with you both on both scores. Meds or other ailments causing higher bgs too.

My failing is no food to replace junk. No junk either so just eating porridge and other cereals to fill me up. Had white bread yesterday and Thursday to fill up.
I have a huge shop ordered for Wednesday so will be great after that. I just could only afford the basics yesterday for the 4 of us.
I know how to do it...like you both but I just need to keep having the low carb food in. Kids of course want my foods but can encroach too much on my protein foods and when I need them, there gone. Protein bread too. Hubby is eating my protein bread on top of his naff white. He's given up smoking and with his antidepressants he eats a lot now.
Kids are off so school meals are a miss.
Wednesday will resolve mine. Then I need to just get on with it. No excuses. I know how I lose weight so I need to stick with that. I need to ignore any confusion, which there is plenty of. If it means jeopardizing my op then I think I have no choice. I need more weight off.

Thank you.
By posting, it helps me and also, it helps others that are struggling.

We can encourage us all

I have come to have a bit of a rant yet again, but at least I know a bit more.
Am having a blood test tomorrow morning, I had spoke to a receptionist end of last week about it and she kept saying it was for my thyroid. I rang surgery today saying I refuse the blood test as I Don, t have a thyroid problem. I was put through to someone else, explained it all again and what the receptionist said last week.
It's now confirmed, as my last HbA1c last October was 6.7, 0.5 up from previous one. This small increase didn't, t bother me as it's not high. I presume it was my gp that had requested this because of the slight rise. I will have it done tomorrow because I am struggling with eating too much and by self testing, I know my levels are rising.
Yet again, I was unduly worrying over the weekend because receptionist last week defo said thyroid and kept going on about t something that relevant to thyroid testing.
That's another thing I am speaking to the practice manager tomorrow.
There's no way last week that when the receptionist got my details up on screen were mine because she asked to spell out my surname, asked address and date of birth.
Once the blood test comes back then I and gp will know it's gone up, so am hoping then he might just do something.
But then again, I will wait with baited breath

Sorry, am I understanding correctly that the blood test tomorrow is an HbA1c and not a thyroid?
That at least is good news, although the receptionist needs a rollicking. You must ask for a print out of these test results so you have it in black and white which tests you had and what the results were.

Good luck with the Practice Manager. x

I may be misunderstanding what you mean in this bit, Ally, but it may not be something to worry about. It may just be part of their security procedure. They do the same thing at my gp, even though they know who I am, they still ask me to give/confirm my details, to ensure that they are looking at the right person's records and that any info they give off their screen is given to the right person.

I got a call today to make my 30mins appointment with practice new nurse. Old one must have gone to Australia earlier than planned.
I just couldnt face arranging something after the last charade. (Ally knows what happened.)
Next Wednesday, for me.
Keep us posted @ally1.

I always get asked my address etc, that's why I couldn,t understand why the receptionist said last week that I was having a thyroid blood rest. Before I rand the surgery this afternoon, I rang the psychs secretary to read out the fax that was sent to my gp when I saw him on the 31st January. I wanted to check that, incase my psych had requested the thyroid blood test. There was nothing about the test but, he had once again requested the diabetic blood test. The fax was sent on the afternoon of the 31st. The letter from the surgery was sent on the 2nd February with date of blood test for tomorrow. So it could well have been made because of that or it coincedent

Am home now.
Bit of a mixed emotion about the practice manager. I mentioned about the 2 letters to gp from my psych requesting 3 monthly bs tests. Well never got a direct answer. We went through out why I was told initially having a thyroid blood test by one receptionist, the was told it's my HbA1c blood test by a different receptionist. Again no direst answer but he was making notes.
I went afterwards to have my HbA1c test. Just need to wait for the result. My surgery only contact you if anything wrong. If it's ok then I will make an appointment with the DN. I Don, t want it to be too high, but also in a way, am hoping it's high to get gp to warrant seeing me.

Good that he was making notes. He isn't in a position to comment to be honest - he needs to speak with the people concerned (the Receptionist and the GP) before making a comment. Do you feel you were given enough time to say everything you needed to?

Good luck with the HbA1c - when you ring for the results please ask for a print out and decide for yourself if anything is wrong - don't rely on someone contacting you.

Big hugs.

Hang in there, @ally1 - you've been amazing throughout the rollercoaster you've been riding recently and fingers crossed it will now begin to smooth out. Sending a hug.
