are there any self help groups out there where you can meet in person rather than online, am currently thinking of rejoining a slimming group just to help me keep things in check

I think that diabetes UK have support groups all over the country although having met one or two of their members I'm not sure I would want to join them.

As @bulkbiker mentioned, Diabetes UK have local groups. These are listed on their website.
My experience of the charity and the people I have met has been excellent with respect to having a desire to make life better for those with diabetes.
From reading comments on this forum (but not personal experience) they may not promote a LCHF diet In their literature. However, at one event I attended, they did not stop anyone else discussing it

I would love to meet like minded people, but no support groups in my area from Diabetes UK or any other organisation that I’ve found :grumpy:

Depends entirely on the area and group. Some are really good and others may not be quite as good.

If there isn't a group in your area you could consider posting locally (Facebook, Nextdoor or similar) to see if anyone is interested in meeting up for a chat.

If that goes well you might consider forming a local group.

Or just keep on chatting now and then.

I don't know if this forum organises meet ups much, but it might be worth asking.

It might be worth contacting your GP practice, @Lesley56. There's a practice here that holds self-help groups for their patients and run by the diabetic nurse. It's not my practice but I have been welcomed to the group and it is open to anyone. There might be something like this group in your area, run by either your practice or another.

Thanks for that, Bulkbiker. I knew you never liked me! :)

@Lesley56 - Like all groups, they really do depend on the people in them. Our local group is quite lively. Each time we meet, we have a diabetes related topic (this month is Travelling with Diabetes, and next month Nueropathy), and we also then have a more social topic (we've had wine tasting, a keep fit session - all sorts).

To find out if there's a group in your area, you can find out here: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/In_Your_Area
