Type 2 Eye problems?

When I needed YAG laser capsulotomy on both eyes in February the doctor at the hospital told me that I had macular degeneration in my right eye and the left eye had blood vessel damage. I couldn't see the scan because I'd had drops in my eyes. I recently had the yearly retinography and it came back normal. What is going on and who is telling the truth?
 
Not sure that the annual eye screen looks at anything other than retinopathy
When I see my optometrist for a yearly eye exam he looks at the eye in much greater detail including the maccula

The diabetic eye screening programme looks for diabetic retinopathy only. That is why they recommend that people attend both the optician and the annual eye screening.

Having said that, if a non-diabetic sight-threatening (or life-threatening) condition is spotted, the programme will refer people either to their GP or directly to hospital, depending on the urgency of the condition and the local protocol. Wet AMD would normally be referred urgently to hospital as it can cause sight-loss very quickly. Dry AMD, however, progresses slowly and is not treatable so may not even be mentioned. Some conditions come on very quickly (wet AMD, blood vessel occlusions) so could be absent at screening one day and visible in ophthalmology by the following week.

What do they do if maculopathy is present how is it treated
