But still, an annoyance . I haven't encountered any major problems, my diabetes seems to be more of a string of minor annoyances and I mostly hardly take notice of those annoyances.
Sometimes they get me though, if only for a couple of minutes. This is my last one, and it annoyed me more than it should have.

I really love zoute drop (look it up on YouTube if you want to know what zoute drop is, you'll get real funny video's of non-Dutchmen forced to eat it ) so I decided it would be a nice change from the dreaded dextro tablets. 88grams of carbs of which 64 sugar should do the trick and I obviously don't mind eating a bit more of them than I would dextro's.

Not a chance, I have hardly been below 5 all week, so no excuse for my zoute drop. I did nibble a small corner of one dropje after buying it, which only made me realize how much I would like to eat the whole bag.

Just now my Libre said 4,2, so I got my bag of dropjes and then decided to double check with my meter.
I should have just taken a dropje. Meter said 4,9, which is definitely no reason for sweets *Insert swearword of preference*.

On the up side, next weekend is 'family weekend ' , which involves 2 lunches, 1 dinner and 1 breakfast in restaurants or hotel, 2 guided tours in historic cities and 2 museums , plus a lot of running around with nephews and nieces, so I might get to eat more dropjes than I wish to! :)

I have loved salted Dutch licorice since I was a kid.
I was the only oneI knew growing up in Canada who did. Would pick it up at the local deli.
I haven’t had it in years.
I do hope you can enjoy it again.

Thanks! I'll definitely enjoy it again, I 'll just wait for an (almost)hypo :)
If you want to enjoy it as well, just let me know and I'll send you a bag (for treating hypo's of course )

Im type 2 so hypo‘ treatment is not something I need.
But I might sneak some in here and there.

I typed zoute drops into Amazon UK and some sugar free ones appeared. No breakdown of what sweeteners are used or carb counts, but just thought I’d mention it. Don’t like the sound of it myself but I do enjoy standard licorice and I found some sugar free supplies of that too :hungry:

I've seen some wicked looking cake shops in Amsterdam as far as it goes :( usually waiting outside while others poison themselves.

The place is a munchies minefield :p

Yes, every supermarket sells about three different kinds of sugar free zoute drop and I do keep a bag of them in my car. I actually ate them regularly before diabetes, as they taste so good. It's the only food I haven't read the back of the package of, as I don't want to know what I'm poisoning myself with :P It's also the only food I ever eat with artificial sweeteners.

Be careful eating cake in Amsterdam. The cake there might have a lot more side effects than high bg :meh:

:p It'd be more do-able with a Libre on, I've been to Amsterdam quite a lot over the last 32 years enjoying 'gedoogbeleid' as I think the term is, good country, good people, crazy bicycles :p
