For those doing Slimming World.. is this article correct?

I was doing Slimming World on and off in last few years leading up to dx, and that sounds about right - avocodos are very high 'syn' value on their plan as it's a low fat/low calorie plan. I remember avoiding them because of it - now I enjoy them several times a week (and have lost 2 stone while doing so)!

edited to add - I think the point in the article the spokeperson made is a good one, that if you want to have one, just count in within your syns - there are many aspects of SW I did like, and this flexibility was one of them.

I left SW because of this, among other reasons. As a vegetarian, it was impossible to do their plan without tons of carbs, which are unlimited. It’s all low fat, high carb stuff, basically. A Müller light yogurt contains around 8g sugar, and yet they are “free”, ie unlimited foods.

I too did SW on and off and as a non-meat eater stuck to the high carb low fat Green plan. I would lose weight only to regain it. I do wonder whether the high carb had a negative effect on my overall health. Now on LCMF my weight has been stable for the last 3 years and my HbA1c in the non-diabetic range. I eat avocados when ever I feel like it! Only anecdotal but hey , it works for me!

Yep, used to eat a lot of fruit and those yogurts on it and from what I've read on here, probably got a fatty liver as a result. As with @Dr Snoddy I would lose weight, then regain quite quickly. I remember they said anyone with diabetes would be given an extra booklet with more guidelines in - I'd love to know what that booklet says.

I lost six stone doing the green plan, but my diabetes control was terrible. Quite a ride on the sugar rollercoaster, I ended up with two DKAs, one nearly fatal. I have no idea what the long term implications of that are going to be... I’ve put two of those stones back on and was despairing of ever losing them again.

I’ve lost 10lbs in a couple of months doing keto, eating all the avocado :)

I tried Slimming World a couple of times. Didn’t get on with it at all - very limited, and slow weight loss. Now I know why - many of the ‘free’ foods are carb and sugar laden. Consequently it was very hard to stick to and not very satisfying, and probably contributed to my insulin resistance and diabetes.

I just found my SW book from 4 years ago. The particular Strongbow can wasn't listed back then but ordinary Strongbow was 7.5 syns per 440ml and an avocado 100g was 9.5 syns. So Yes, it's true. I never followed the SW diet myself, just went for the weigh ins.

I’m tempted to go back for the group aspect but stick to keto. And have great fun when they ask what I’ve eaten and tell them slabs of cheese slathered in butter, avocado with fully leaded mayo and watch their heads explode

I googled their guidelines for diabetics and got this article: https://www.slimmingworld.co.uk/useful-features/losing-weight-with-diabetes.aspx - so even with those already diagnosed, carbs feature heavily and are recommended. It's a pity they got rid of their 'red days' plan (I never followed it myself as vegetarian), as I believe that although it was still low fat, it was protein rich with restricted carbs.

Our GPs have stopped giving free referrals (first 6-8wks free on the nhs) hallelujah!!!
They were fatty liver havens.
My mum was upset but she won't be told.

Only very low carb gets rid of mine.

Ive never done SW as I've never believed in their management. Hearsay tells me they can't all be wrong.
Avon works in a similiar way.
Too close to pyramid selling for my liking.
