evening all nice to be part of the group i am having trouble with my hba1c results latest reading 82 and thinking of trying a low carb diet any views on this
It might be helpful to know what else you've tried up to now. I recently got my HbA1c down to 57 by tight carb counting. This was my best result in 28 years, but still outside the nondiabetic range, so I'm trying low carb. It's a bit drastic, it doesn't work for everyone, but I'm willing to give it a go. Many people seem to achieve very good control without going low-carb. Exercise certainly helps enormously by reducing insulin resistance. I think there's a strong argument for low-GI foods, too, and generally avoiding refined sugars. So there's a lot of other territory to explore, too.evening all nice to be part of the group i am having trouble with my hba1c results latest reading 82 and thinking of trying a low carb diet any views on this
Hi Guzzler thanks for your reply and help yes i am on both medication and insulin been a diabetic since 2005 which up until the last 6 months to a year has been fine now its gone all haywire and cannot control itI think it is a great idea! But then I would think that because I am on this diet (or lifestyle). My A1c was 98 on dianosis and I lowered it to 43 within four months.
Tagging @daisy1 who will swing by and post an invaluable info pack for you. May I ask if you are on medications for your Diabetes? This will affect the advice you are given.
Welcome to the forum, have a wander around and ask as many questions as you like.
Hi Bluetit 1802 have now arragned a meeting with a diabetic specalist so we can have a look at doing low carb but as you say not so straight forward being on 5 insulin inections a dayGoodness, you are on a lot of different medications and have had a tough time with your stroke, but well done for recovering as well as you have.
Low carb is an excellent eating plan but care needs to be taken when taking insulin. I'm sure you realise that carbs convert to glucose once eaten, so the less carbs we eat the less glucose is released, and the less insulin is needed. If you inject too much you will hypo. So you need to be able to carb count to sort out the correct doses. Have you been taught how to do this?
