Best way to lose weight?

I've been eating low-carb (ish) for 2 weeks now: no grains, no white potatoes, no sugar etc but I've only lost a few pounds. I'm not a fast loser but coupled with the exercise I've been doing I would have normally lost a bit more. I'm still having sweet potatoes, nuts & seeds so obviously what I'm eating isn't totally low carb plus with the nuts would be quite a few calories. Any ideas please?

If you post a typical day's food - types and amounts, plus a typical day's exercise, people may spot things to work on.

OK here goes! Yesterday I had two eggs and two rashers of bacon, coffee with cream and some salted almonds, roast ham pease pudding and salad and later on I had a few more almonds...oh and loads of water. I did about ten thousand steps too.

Doesn't sound like a huge amount to work on there, depending on quantities. I also have to count calories regardless of how low carb I go.

Do you have a carb count and calorie count for that lot? I'm especially thinking carbs in the case of the pease pudding, and calories in the case of the almonds.

I also counted calories as well as carbs when I was losing weight, and when I reached goal and kept on losing, I had to increase calories, which I did by adding fatty proteins such as eggs and cheese. That worked, and I stabilised. May I ask if you drink alcohol at all? That doesn't help with weight loss.

However, 2 weeks is no time at all yet you have lost "a few pounds". The recommended safe weight loss is up to 2lbs a week

No Adam. I just cut out what I read I had to and ate what was apparently allowed too but deep down I was thinking "sweet potatoes and nuts and seeds on low carb"? :-(

Maybe cut out the Pease pudding Sweet Potatoes. Walnuts are lower than Almonds

Nuts in small quantities, and you have to be careful because some have more calories than others. Sweet potatoes are more carby than ordinary ones. Seeds are fine.

I do normally drink alcohol but have more or less cut it out. I had one measly glass of wine last week and diluted it with water! If I go strict low carb I know I can lose weight but I get constipated. If I add sweet potatoes and nuts I'm OK but I don't lose. I walked over 23000 steps the other day so was expecting to wake up about 7 stone but it didn't happen!!

I think what I'm going to have to do is go hard-core low carb for a while, then by then I should have my meter. I know I DO have to watch my nut consumption-I have to rein myself in when eating them.

There is a saying "you can't burn off a bad diet". Basically, exercise is great for general good health and well being, but it doesn't help you lose much weight. There is no reason to be constipated on low carb. I'm not. There are plenty of foods with fibre in that are also low in carb. Flaxseeds and chia seeds are good, along with most green veggies. *(and peas and beans if your meter agrees with them) I buy milled flaxseed and add generous amounts to my lunch time meals. As long as there is something "wet" on the plate, it goes very well. (sliced tomato, oily fish, egg mayo, yogurt, stews, soups and so forth)

Yes

Yes you mentioned flax seeds yesterday. Are they low carb?

Yes

Yes. The ones I buy are:
Per 100g
calories 508
Fat 40g
Carbs 3g of which sugars are 1.8g
Fibre 23.7g
Protein 22.1g
Omega 3 19.4g
Also a good source of iron, zinc and magnesium.

I have somewhere around 15g (1 heaped dessertspoon).

I have to keep away from cheese, nuts, cream and chicken skin. Oh and pork scratchings. Low carbing throughout and long term.

Flax seed makes me vomit so I guess it doesn't agree with me.
Not sure if interferes with one of my meds but twice it happened so I binned them.

True me to be different. :(
