Glucose Tolerance Test

I do not have diabetes
So I’ve had a few tests and one was the glucose Tolerance Test and at 30 min my blood sugar was 12. An hour later 11.8 and then 2 hours later it was 3.2. Is this a good result? I’ve not been diagnosed as diabetic I’m being tested because of high blood sugars at times. I’m awaiting results of fasting bloods and the three month one. Just wondering if above results are good.

They should have done a finger prick test before you had the drink. This is your fasting test. Were you told what it was?

Hi Paulie,
Sounds pretty good to me. But sorry I have no personal experience of the test give it a couple of minutes and someone who knows what there talking about will be able to give you a better answer. (well more informed)

The low 3.2 result shows that your body has dealt with the glucose.
 
The crash downwards at the 2 hour mark indicates you may be producing too much insulin.
What did the doctor have to say?
 
Nothing until everything is back. Would that mean everything is working as it should?
 
Over 11.2 mmol under the test, and below 4 mmol after the test are not normal.
Your OGTT show that your body compansate and release too much insulin because of too high blood sugar.
To me the test results points out towards reactive hypoglycemia.
Getting a hypo (3.2) after an OGTT are not normal, and I think you should get an appoinrment with an endo- or diabetes doctor.
 
There is a condition akin to reactive hypoglycaemia called glucose dumping.

Was the glucose test a standard two hours test or longer?

If you go high, then go low, under 4mmols, you are producing too much insulin.

What are your symptoms?
 
And i agree with getting yourself an endocrinologist.
your GP will probably not have the experience you need.
Do look at our forum, reactive hypoglycaemia.
