Shepard avo's were $2.00 each at Woolies yesterday, bags of awkward avo's were $6.00 a bag of ten small ones.

They are just the right size to go in a wrap with ham and salad.

Waitrose had packs of 2 'Perfectly Ripe' Peruvian avocados for £2 today, but I bought a couple of ripe large Colombian avocados at £1.30 each from M&S.

There have been a few avocado growers bringing in reject Hass avo's into the bowls club for the members in the last week. These have the best price ever at $0.00.

No problems to me that there is a mark or blemish on the skin, i don't eat that bit

I had one of the Colombian avos last night. It seemed slightly sweet, and was excellent. It made me think of trying to make some avocado ice cream this summer.

That seems a great idea for ice cream.

Those Hass avo's from the bowls club have a slightly nutty taste to them.

Well, hello again folks - have been AWOL for quite a while; am delighted to see that this "specialist" thread is still going strong! ;)

Avos have been off my menu for ages now, owing to the poor quality of fruits that were on offer in my little corner of the globe. Those I last purchased, a few months back, were either rock hard, ripen-at-home that never ripened, or were over-ripe, or went bad before they ripened! Not appetising in the least. A week or so ago I had a trial run and bought a couple because they looked and felt ok, almost ready for eating. As it turned out the first one I tried tasted 'dry' and yucky - ended up throwing it out! The second one was equally bad so that went in the bin too. So that was money down the drain (or rather, in the bin).

Undeterred, I have today ventured into the world of avos once again because they were on 'special' in my local Sainsbury's and they looked really good, smooth, light green skins, firm but not too firm, just the right amount of "give" - I didn't realise how much I had missed my daily avo. I now have 2 packs of 2 in the hope that quality and taste is equal to the anticipation. These are South African "fuerte" variety (whereas the others were hass) so I live in hope that these will be fine. Not broken into one yet; that will come at lunch tomorrow. Can only pray that my assessment, such as it was, proves correct and these might just be worth the expenditure! In which case, they're back on the menu! ..... well, at least until supplies run out at Sainsbury's, I guess.

Glad to see your supplies have remained steady in Ausieland - and at a superb price!

I'll be interested to see what taste comes through with my fuerte variety in the next day or so.

Amazing, I was blown away when introduced to "Wonky veg" in Morrisons. 5 avos £1.50, not as good a bargain as yours @Mel dCP but still reasonable

..... why is there never a Morrison's around when you need them

Our local Wednesday market often do bowls of 5-6 avos for £1-£1.50, lucky me

... nor a Wednesday market ! :D
