Hey guys,

Ive been having this problem since around febuary, I had 2 tests done regarding the issue but non of them clarified what the problem is, so for a few months now Ive been refusing to face it and look for answers.

After eating I feel very sick and sometimes shortly after I finished my meal it all comes out. I cant not eat to cover the insulin, but its a bad circle. First I noticed this occurs only after eating egg, animal protein and such, but later I noticed I feel the need to puke even when not eating for like 4-5 hours.
At first my doc suspected gallstone but as I said, the tests we had to figure out the problem all came back negative, so we havent found the cause of this all.
Now even when talking or thinking about food I start feeling sick. I noticed though that Im kinda okay with fresh food. Like uncooked veggies and fruits and about thats it. Anything thats been processed makes me sick.
Even when I work out I dont feel hungry afterwards, it was different before, I could eat a horse in one next day after a good workout. Im losing weight which Im not happy about, its still in the normal range but Im afraid it will drop more shortly. My fam says when I see them that I look very sleek and slim and the work out Ive been doing must be good, but I know this is not the work out, and I dont find skeleton body a positive thing.

I ll contact my doc once again as Im starting to worry about this more now and I would like to fix it before it gets too bad. I dont know if it could be related to diabetes care, I use novorapid before meals and no basal. If any of u have a clue please let me know.

Thanks,
Have a good day.

Hi @miszu I'm not T1 so I cannot answer your specific queries, but I am posting to bump the thread.

I will also tag in @Mel dCP because she has specific problems with mammal protein, and may want to chip in.
Are you finding fish protein is OK?
OR tofu?

Hope you find an anwer to this!

Hi, thank you for reply.
I dont eat fish, so I cant tell if Im ok with that. I havent eaten tofu since this problem is there I just dont feel like eating it. Before I was always fine with tofu.

Hi miszu, I’m confused by your use of insulin. These days non-pumpers using novorapid also use a basal such as Levemir, Tresiba, toujeo. Is there any reason why you don’t?
What are your blood sugar readings like? How often do you test?
I’m looking at the T1 issue first but maybe there are other reasons why food makes you sick, for instance might you be pregnant? Could you have a problem with your stomach’s pyloric sphincter? Have you been exposed to any biochemical hazards? The list could go on, but don’t let possibilities cause concern until you get a more in depth medical analysis! And with luck it’ll be easily fixed!
Being unable to digest food is potentially dangerous for anyone, let alone a T1. Are you in the U.K.? Even if you’re not, could you ask your doctor to refer you to a specialist in digestive problems? And an endocrinologist?

Hi. Ive been T1 since 2016 but my doc says my FBGs are good and a basal at night could put me in a bad hypo, so she says for now I still dont need basal. I check every day 5-7 times, my BG is between 4-7 tipically, sometimes a few hypos(not that often) or when on period its higher but overall pretty normal BG. Im certainly not pregnant, no biochemical hazards. I feel very great after some lemonjuice if that helps..? Im from Hungary, Ive been at a endocrinologist, they found nothing going wrong on that field. I ll try to ask for more contacts from my doc and try to figure out more... I was thinking if its possible that my body doesnt like novorapid that much, maybe a different type of bolus could work better?

I’m not an expert, not a medic, so the only thing I can say, really, is ask for a referral. For instance, my son-in-law is coeliac, and it took a long time before a diagnosis. He’s so much better now.
Your blood sugars sound really good, congratulations.

Having just written that about my son-in-law has made me think: do you eat gluten-containing foods with most meals? Things like wheat, rye, pearl barley, wraps, chips with a flour coating. . . Your symptoms are very like his were and coeliac, like T1, is an autoimmune condition. It might be worth keeping a food diary to find out what really makes you feel worst. I notice that fresh veg and fruit are ok - no gluten there.
It’s only an idea, so don’t leap to conclusions.
Good luck.

I dont really eat gluten since Im diabetic. Theres something on my mind. I had very bad stress issues a few years ago I dont know if stress could do this all but the thing is, Ive been great for a long time now. Well. With diabetes too it was like this, docs told me all kinds of things, whats not it, but couldnt figure out it was simply my BG. I hope this time it ll be something easy. Thanks for tips Fairy, much appreciated! I ll write down as many things as possible so I can show my docs.
X

Hi. It's unlikey to be due to the diabetes or insulin but obviously needs investigation. BTW the reason to have Basal with Bolus is to balance the liver's continuous background glucose output. Without that the Bolus would need to be a bit higher and there would be a few more peaks and troughs in your sugars.

Feeling better after drinking lemon juice might offer a clue to the source of the problem. It's supposed to improve gut health, and digestion.

I found this, but it's only one of the many blogs on the web that may, or may not, be reliable.

https://draxe.com/benefits-of-lemon-water/

The natural foods you crave seem to fit with the idea that the problem is related to that. I don't know what the best thing to do is, but I would be guided, until you get proper advice from a doctor, by what your body wants you to eat, as long as it's healthy.

How does the thought of eating a probiotic yoghurt work for you? You could maybe try it with some nice fruit.

But this is all very low level guess work, by me.

One other thought, have you taken any antibiotics recently? They can undermine gut flora, and cause loss of appetite.

At first I was given lots of probiotics such as Normaflore and Lactiv. I mentioned that at first it was only after egg and such, so everytime I felt sick I just popped one in of those probiotics they gave me. Some time later the probiotics stopped working and I discovered how good the lemon makes me feel. Im no expert either, just worried that things might get worse. Thanks for advices and tips. X

Thanks for tagging me, @Brunneria - I have to confess I can’t think of anything helpful here. My issues with mammal meat are very different, I get breathing difficulties and then feel drained for several hours after eating it. I’ve had gallstones too, and as your doc says, this sounds nothing like that. I used to drink lemon salt water in the mornings, but recently I’ve swapped the lemon juice for Kombucha, just for a change. That’s supposed to be good for gut flora. Sorry I can’t be much help, I know how awful it is to be sick all the time when you rely on insulin to stay alive, I was in a similar situation with morning sickness when I was pregnant, although you said you’re not. I can only suggest going back to your doctor ASAP x

Hi @miszu ,

Sorry to read about your issue.
Are you prescribed any other medication, other than the insulin?

There are many food allergies in the family, but I had it tested once a few years ago and it was all fine. Even if it was OK that time could it be that it developed now?

Yes, I ll contact my doc, next time I can speak to her is on Tuesday.
Thanks for help X

Im not. I remember this sickness started when I had this sugar and everything free choco proteinbar every day one slice. It was last year tho around may, I was looking for some snacks and I found this proteinbar yummy and low in carbs. After eating that for some weeks that was the first time I felt sick like this but it was not this bad at all, just a little noticable. I stopped eating that bar though and forgot about the little sickness. Now this year it came back again. Maybe that could be a good information too, but i dont know. I ll definitely contact an expert, I just wanted to know if it could be related to diabetes care. Thank you X

We’ve got an autoimmune condition - allergies can hit any time. I’ve been T1 for 20 years now, and in that time have developed allergies to oilseed rape, hair dye, and in the last couple of years, meat, poultry and cow dairy.
