hey all iv been recently trying to see how long novorapid last works in my system and it seem that its working over 5 hours after bolous and meal but i feel for some reason its real slow to come back down so started at 9.3 injected 4units novorapid before meal which was 2x toast with peanut butter then 2hours later it was 13.6 3rd hour it was 12.7 then 4th hour it was 12.1 then 5th hour it was 10.7. i feel this is real slow how long it takes to come back down. or does it sound normal?.

I know sometimes for me its still working in the 4th to 5th hour, other times its all done within 2-3 hours - not very predictable at all for me.

I've recently changed from Humalog to Novorapid and I've had a similar experience. In comparison, for me it's much slower in getting started so seems to be trying to catch up with the carbs. I guess I need to experiment with prebolusing - have you considered this?

Additionally, you're starting quite high, could this be affecting your sensitivity/carb ratio?

Try the same experiment but without the peanut butter. It may show something different.

@static192 - You might want to have a read of this: http://www.diabettech.com/insulin/w...n-action-dia-times-we-use-and-why-it-matters/

The way insulin is broken down by the body, in reality there are still small amounts left for a lot longer than five hours after injection.

Your test is slightly flawed as eating and dosing insulin together makes it extremely difficult to determine what is having an effect when. The best mechanism is to raise your glucose level to say 8 or 9 and then wait until it is flat at that level for 30 mins to an hour, then do a 1u dose and see what the outcome is.

There are many things which affect our BG not just food and insulin.
The reason for your observations, for example, may be due to stress.
Have you done a basal test over the same period? Your body may naturally rise (or fall) during that time of the day.
