Hello everyone. Hope you don’t mind if I pick your brains a little! I don’t know anyone with type 1 and I’m recently diagnosed (feb). Have asked my DN for Keto diet advise and she just said don’t do it basically as not enough research but I can’t manage with the crazy carb insulin rollercoaster anymore. Lots have advised on a few threads already but I can’t get enough advise atm!
I’ve been doing progressively more low carb since diagnosed and the past few days I’m down to 30grams a day. Lots of fish and avocado.. green veg and cheese. My ketones are up to 0.4 today and my BS is staying around 4.5 all day- up to 6 max when eat and then goes no lower than 4.5.
I was wondering what happens when it is at say 4.8 and I go for a brisk walk etc.. will it go low unless I eat? Or does it usually stay steady? Would my body burn its own fat and I don’t need to worry.
I walk quite quickly for about 30 mins for the train from work and when was eating more carbs it would go low if didn’t have a snack or something on route.
Also, what percentages do people? 10 percent carbs, 20 protein and 70 fat?
I feel so much better already but just have lots of questions, hoping I’m doing it right and it’s safe. I’ve watched lots of dr Bernstein’s videos but haven’t ordered his book yet. Waiting until get paid on Friday ...
What happens you when you exercise? Do you ever go low and why do you think it is if you do?
I’m typically having a shake with almond butter, almond milk, avocado, spinach and flax seed for breakfast.
Mackerel and salad for lunch..
Eggs, cheese and turkey for dinner..
Dark chocolate as snack..
I know there are lots of type 1s who are so experienced and would love their guidance.
I’m on 4 lantus and don’t need to inject for meals atm. I’m also taking high strength folic acid as looking to conceive within next year. Am I taking too soon?
All advice welcome!
Thanks!!!!
