Used Accu-Chek Combo Pump

Hello!
I am 28 and diagnosed with T1 for about 4 years now, I am very struggling with highs after meals which can go up to 14-16.

I am trying to inject early before meals but most of the time I can't make it early enough.. a pump could help me a lot in these situations..

I was looking around and the Accu-Chek seems to be ok and for finding resonable supplies for it(as I need to self-fund them)

If anyone has one lieing around I would be very greatefull for it!

No idea what country you are in but in the UK you wont be able to have a 2nd hand pump because because the NHS pays for the pump thus it's not the patient's pump to sell.
You would also need a letter from your consultant to be able to buy a pump and supplies.

So you need to get your consultant on board and see if you can secure funding so it's all provided for you by the NHS (that's if you are in the U.K)

I'm in the UK.

It's not particularly to be sold, I'm sure there are people out there who self-fund it. If NHS then someone can give it forward too, don't think that is against any rules, at least it can help someone else too.

Technically it is against the law a pump is prescription equipment and prescription equipment can only be used by the person it is prescribed to so I don't think they can sign you off to self fund with a pump they haven't pescriscribed
Plus insulin from a pump doesn't absorb any quicker in your system I had the same issue before I started on my pump and it doesn't really make much diffrence I now just have bolus the 15 mins before I eat,
You only really have two options ask about fiasp which allows you to inject minutes before eating or
If you really want to try a pump then ask about the omnipod

Insulin Pumps and consumables are not prescription only items in the UK. They can be purchased and funded privately. This means they can be sold legally.

Can you explain your logic that leads you to believe you can take your insulin earlier before meals if you have a pump?

Having had this discussion with a couple of pump clinic specialists recently, while the pumps themselves have an Rx marking on them, they are not prescription items. I was roundly shouted down by a couple of well known HCPs on that topic.

@Endy07 I have same thoughts a @helensaramay, whilst a pump would maybe automate it, you can still inject insulin pre meal - I did it for many years and you can inject again at meal time or later for a manual double bolus.

As for the legal control on an NHS issued pump that has past its 4 yrs life, I'm pretty sure there are no controls on passing on such an item that would have been destroyed but selling them I would expect be a criminal act.

I'm not sure about the legal side of things but would you want to trust my life to something which is no longer within warranty with no support to set it up adjusting dosage, configuring basals, etc.
It is a lot more than just learning what the controls do (or don't do if the pump is not fully functioning).

Many people actively seek out of warranty pumps for closed loop purposes, often they function fine for a few years afterwards.

I'm all for people having pumps who want them, but I don't think it will solve your issue. I actually find insulin works slower when I am pumping, meaning pre-bolusing is even more important than with injecting. What insulin are you using? Are you sure your basal is the right dosage? What are you eating? Do your blood sugars come back down without a correction? I think there are a lot of things to figure out first and they need to be solved regardless of whether you are using a pump or MDI. If it's just a matter of the pump allowing you to be more discrete with bolusing and thus bolus earlier in social situations, I think that is an advantage. How early are you pre-bolusing right now?

I agree with @scotteric - as a pump user of ten years, if I ever need to correct a high rapidly, I default to an injection via syringe, as it works much faster than the same dose of the same insulin administered via the pump.

What insulin are you using? It's important to get that right, too. But a pump itself won't help you address your post-meal highs. If you haven't already, I recommend reading Gary Scheiner's book, 'Think Like a Pancreas', which gives detailed but easy-to-follow instruction on how to adjust doses and bolus timing.

some interesting comments most all based on peaples daily use .
we are all given guides how to do things so i woul think everyone has diffrent advice if you try things learn keep records write down better to look. at than starting up comps actrapid insulin start work within half hour but igive my pump insulin 5 mins before meals as food staedy carbs start work about the same
also if high blood sugars say 20-0 would like COLIN OF KENT inject via a syringe say 5 units check bllod s 1 hour and see were blood s are then change needle and line s on pump as i suffer with a lot of sites DO NOT ABSORB AS
61 years of injections ,.
so my advice check record and use commen sense to get thinks level or in balance 3 days is agod record , then adjust up or down hope this may help
