Is This T2, Lada Or Nothing?

Hi,

My fasting blood glucose is mostly between 100 and 110. My two hour post meal bg never exceeded 140, it stays almost always below 120 even after eating lots of carby foods like pizza, ice-cream etc. I even checked one hour post meal and it was below 120. My most recent A1C was 5.1%. My problem is only in the fasting blood glucose, it just won't come down, sometimes it comes down to 95 but mostly stays in 100-110. This is making me worried a lot these days. 3 months back my fasting sugar was 85-90 when I was living a sedentary lifestyle. But then I adopted a very healthy lifestyle (and saw this increase in fasting sugar), I exercise always in the morning, do gym and running, I have become muscular and lost most of the little amount of fat that I had. My weight has been consistent at around 120 lbs and height is 170cm. Also my current diet is high in protein and vegetables , very low carbs, so I don't think carbs have any effect. For experiment, I switched to a very high carb diet and fasting sugar remains the same. However, if I eat something in the morning and go out for exercise, my blood sugar drops to 85-90 approximately 2 hours after eating which also includes an hour of exercise. I have no idea what's going on. My doctor isn't concerned. I read about LADA on the internet and it scared me out, I am thin, and LADA happens to thin people. I don't have any family history or any other medical condition. I am 20. Please someone tell me what's going on.

Thank you.

Not a doctor, and I had to convert your measurements, but from what I can tell? You're fine. We get a liver dump of glucose in the morning to give us energy to start the day. Your numbers are normal, far as I can see.

Hi, thanks for replying. All the numbers are in mg/dl. You can convert it to mmol/l by dividing by 18. So basically, my fasting is between 5.5 to 6.1 mmol/l. And 2hr post prandial is below 6.6 mmol/l.
I have heard of liver dumping blood glucose, but is it normal for it push the numbers in pre diabetic range for a non diabetic? And what happens to the fasting numbers in LADA?

You're in the non-diabetic range. Your glucometer and your HbA1c results are perfect. You don't have LADA. Honest.

Why do you think you might be diabetic? Not everyone monitors their glucose on a day to day basis without a solid reason to start, hence the question. If you have symptoms that worry you, check then out. But rest assured, you're not diabetic. If something is making you think you're not okay (aside from perfectly healthy numbers many of us here work our butts off to achieve, really!!!), see your GP.

I read that fasting above 100 is pre diabetic that's what motivated me to check again. No symptoms though. My doctor isn't worried, he says that a1c and after meal is more important than fasting. I only got scared when I read about LADA.

There's more to diabetes (any kind) than a slightly elevated fasting blood glucose level. Diabetics can't, for different reasons, process carbs. We don't make enough insulin to deal with it, or we do but are resistant to it, either of which ends up elevating our bloodsugars to destructive levels after we ingest carbohydrates. If your levels after a meal are good, and they are, you're a-okay. Especially the pizza; most of us get really messed up over pizza! The slight, tiny, really insignificant rise you see is not coming directly from your food; it's coming from your liver. It can store or make glucose on its own, so it is no indication whatsoever of whether or not your body can process carbs. It's just giving you something to go on in the morning, trying to be nothing but a helpful liver. It's what it does, among other things, and nothing to worry about. I don't know if that explanation helps at all, but that's diabetes (1,2,3 Lada and Mody etc) in a nutshell.
:)

which also includes an hour of exercise
There you have your answer.. exercise in the morning may well be the culprit as it is well know to raise blood sugar levels (especially if energetic). Try not exercising in the morning and do the evening instead and see if you get different results. You'll only need to try it for a few days to see what happens. Don't forget to test bloods after evening exercise too.

Thank you everyone from replying. I also thought the same way, maybe my body has adapted itself to exercise in the morning and raises blood sugar to provide fuel. I'll try to change my exercise routine to evening.
