I have finally persuaded my DN to add a full cholesterol breakdown to my HbA1c test next week. What do i ask the phlebotomist to tick on the sheet, and DN said dont bother fasting, but i am not sure if its better to fast.

Ideas welcome : )

You don't need to fast for HbA1c but you do for a proper cholesterol breakdown. If you don't fast the triglyceride figure with be higher so the breakdown is not accurate.

For accurate results you want to have fasted for 12-14 hours before the blood drawer.
You want a full lipid panel. Cholesterol, HDL, Triglycerides, LDL.

As per usual, who knows!!! I've just had one and was told NO need to fast as the results would still show what they needed to know.

What they needed to know but maybe not what you needed to know.
I always fast as the test is before I have my breakfast anyway.

I had to create a new account, I'm hoping it can be linked to my old one as it's now showing me as a newbie.

I've never had to ask the phlebotomist to do anything, but I do always tell her I have fasted.
