People telling me "You can't eat this and You can't eat that." and of course " You don't look Diabetic!"
Hey there,

I had a chat with my Diabetes specialist in my GP's practise about getting a meter. She explained that the meter would be free (if they can give me one.) but not the test strips. She gave me the rational behind why Us Type 2's don't need to test regularly and when I raised my eyebrows she just nodded and obviously agreeing with my thoughts on the rational. (Not going to go into that here though.)

So it looks likely I will have to buy my own, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some help. I do use the Freestyle Libre but I also like to do a couple of tests each day or if I am feeling very low and the Libre isn't agreeing with the way I am feeling I test then.

So price wise for strips is the biggest factor for me, any help would be great.

Here are some meters that are popular on the forum:

Taken from a post by @Bluetit1802 as she wrote it so nicely:

The most popular meters for self funding T2's are the Codefree and the Tee2 because the strips are much cheaper than other meters, and you need a lot of strips. You can't buy them in pharmacies.

Try here for the Codefree meter

and here for the extra strips

http://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/sd-codefree-test-strips-to-be-used-only-with-the-sd-monitor/

There are discount codes if you buy in bulk.

5 packs 264086

10 packs 975833

The Tee2 is here

Don’t forget to check the box that you have diabetes so you can buy VAT free. (for either meter)

think yom may well be correct . but also you have to look past that as i have an accucheck spirit pump with a meter thats links to the pump so i used to check to see how far out the old model was but to be honest it was not far apart withblood sugars all so politices come into it as as found out this forum is a no no with a cetain other group but whoever and whatever we think any help or ideas n any forum in my is great we all from time to time like to see anything to do with a problem
allso the this new true metrix is an updated version of the old and as BOOTS is now an amercian company metrix is also an usa company very good very small and tiny to carry is great on a walk or bike ride
take care regards vic
ps this is self funding

I have a Contour Next One (got for free from the Contour website) strips are about 23 euro for 50, so there are definately cheaper models out there but I like that it syncs to an app on my phone and has all of my history there without me needing to remember to enter it.

I have one of these too. Get the strips off ebay or amazon.

I find the readings are always at least 2mmol higher than the BGM given to me by my DN.
