And numbers already dropping and the best thing for me is that after my evening meal there was only an increase of 1.3!

Not sure yet how Keto I’m going to go but am starting with target of 20g carbs a day. Really feel full, will just see how it goes.

Wow! I do wish I'd done like you and started on 20g carbs daily, instead of dragging my feet trying to eat more and ending up at 20g carbs all the same! Well done! I think on that level of carbs you'll most likely be in ketosis without trying.

Yes, I agree. Slowly but surely. I started with over 100g of carbs and gradually reduced until I was happy. I had no carb flu and no cravings. Ended up with 30g, and felt very well throughout. Cold turkey works for some, but not everyone. Well done so far. :)

For what it's worth, Dr Bernstein strongly advocates the cold turkey approach, partly because he considers carbs addictive.

I'll fourth the cold turkey though have to admit i was sooo tired, but i am now convinced that was due to good ole Metformin...NOT. Horrid stuff though others do well on it i hear. Weight loser went on a daily basis to the point i am now having trouble staying at the ideal weight. All good though.:playful:

Hi @NikkieDuranie I went straight in at 20g carbs per day, only thing I found was I was getting hamstring and calf cramps. I just had a class of salt water every day for a couple of days and it cleared up.:) Good luck with your new way of eating, its well worth it and you will feel great when you get them carbs out of your system.:smug:

By choice (mine, not my GP's) I take the maximum dose of Glucophage and eat VLC. I did increase my dose of Metformin very gradually, and always take the pills with meals. I have had no serious side effects. Metformin is supposed to suppress appetite and so help with weight loss, but I am managing to keep my weight stable, which is what I need.

Because we give up almost all processed foods on LCHF/Keto we can sometimes experience a change to our salt levels so a slight increase in salt is sometimes enough to see off cramps.

The best way to describe keto flu (aka carb flu) is that it is like the flu but without the raging temperature although I did get the sweats with it. The worst symptom was the weakness, I felt so weak that just turning over in bed was beyond me. There were other symptoms but it was this that frightened me and if not for the great advice I got from members here I would have given up completely on the whole idea of managing my T2 with diet. Do not underestimate how nasty, how unpleasant keto flu can get. The good thing was that it was short lived and there are no harmful effects.

Because my diet is very LC, I also worry about the drop in my potassium levels, so I hope to solve the problem of reduced sodium AND reduced potassium by consuming Lo-salt. https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/webapp.../lo-salt-reduced-sodium-salt-alternative-350g
And, yes, like all free-flowing table salt it does contain "chemicals" (Anti-Caking Agents: Magnesium Carbonate (a plus) and Sodium Hexacyanoferrate), but I'm turning a blind eye.

Gosh sounds horrid, glad you stuck at it. Thanks for the warning

Good luck and well done to you and all Keto devotees.
Personally I followed a slightly different route which I’ll share in case the K flu does hit too hard.
My approach has not been to count carbs but to follow the Dr Hallberg rules of
1. Eat when hungry stop when full
2. Avoid potatoes, grains and sugary things
3. Eat real food
4. Avoid low fat foods

Depending on my food choices each day sometimes I’m eating virtually no carbs, some days I’m probably over 50g.
It’s still a massive lifestyle change with very positive results but I’ve found it simple to follow as well.
I’m not being critical of anyone else’s choices - Keto sounds very effective.
