Insulin In A Pill.

As much as I would like not having to inject, it is a convenient method of taking a specific dose.
If insulin was in tablet for, I expect to have to carry lots of pills around either in different sizes or lots of small size ones for the big slice of cake or wonderful freshly baked loaf.

Whilst I take your point about suddenly wanting or needing a dose of insulin for afternoon tea at the palace, I wonder if it would work for basal?

The research seems to concentrate on getting the insulin to where it needs to be via an oral method rather than how dosing might work - maybe they haven't considered that aspect yet.
 
I reckon you are on to something, it would make the perfect basal alternative method, and then you would only need your fast acting insulin injection when and before eating food or for corrections

I know this tablet would greatly help me if It was for basal, I know its not much, but the twice a day I take mine, once at 11am and 11pm its easy to forget to take my basal, especially hectic life on a morning and being tired later on in the evening, the convenience of just taking a pill would totally make it a lot easier

At present my bg has not reached the stage where insulin might be prescribed, but looking ahead, insulin in pill form could be perfect for me as a bolus, as I suffer from delayed stomach emptying. Presumably food and pill would pass through my digestive system together, slowly or fast as the case might be. Otherwise the insulin from the injection might work quickly but the meal it was intended to cover not arrive til hours later.
 
Hmmm I want to take 33u Basal How many tablets would I need to take and of what strengths, not to mention the potential for a serious mix up, I took 3x30u and 1x1u instead of the other way around. I suspect this will go the way of that nasal spray only faster. A great idea in theory, they just hadn't thought of the practicality.
