Been told I’m either prediabetic or diabetic. Waiting on second bloods to come back. Hoping it’s all just a mishap with the results and the second lot come back normal. Can fasting blood# of 6.6 be something else or been spiked by something I ate or drank running up to the night of fasting. Do I just sound desperate.

Hi @Lisa haffy. You can only wait for the second test. If you need to lose weight, look at the threads on low carb and or keto diets, see if either might be right for you.

Once you have got over the carb addiction you will find you are not as hungry and the weight melts away!
 
I’ve tried so hard in the past when 8 was warned 5/6 months back that my high visceral fat would lead to disease. Ive. Done slimming. World diet . Weight watchers. Jane plan. Cave man diet and not lost a pound. Itry not to eat all day because as soon as I start eating the hunger kicks in and I can’t stop. Really gonna need this dietician. Will take a look at keto, not tried that yet. Thanks

Everything you have learned about dieting, you need to throw out the window. Forget calories. Forget low fat. Concentrate on lowering carbs. It is a high learning curve, but worth it in the long run. It works for me. Read up on these diets and see if it is for you.

How much weight would you like to lose? As a T2 it will be a way of life, I wouldn't go back to eating junk, not for a gold clock!
 
Hi @Lisa haffy and welcome to the forum.The second HbA1c test is to confirm diagnosis. There is a remote possibility that the first was a mistake. I think we all hope that, but it's really just being in denial.
The HbA1c test - where they take a vial of blood from your arm and send it to a lab for analysis, measures your average blood glucose over the last 8-12 week. So something you ate the night before or other temporary factors like infection, stress or tiredness won't affect it, unlike the 'finger prick' test which just gives a measurement at that moment.

Many of us on here have found that adopting a Low Carbohydrate High Fat (lchf) approach to eating has reduced our blood glucose levels, and usually weight too. Have a read round the threads to see how it works and ask any questions you want to.
 
I’m 98 kilos should be 68 kilos so yeah a massive 30 kilos. Hope I feel like you do soon. My weight causes other practical problems too and I know I need to do something about it, but it’s hard. Maybe this is me gonna have to do it now.

Yeah gonna have to change my diet big time. My life as well I suppose. Thank you for your advice, I know I’m clutching at straws but I think until I hear them say it I have to believe my bloods will come back normal. I’m 48 years old and am struggling . Get results on Wednesday, they take a week

Make sure that you ask for your HbA1c number.

I was diagnosed in November 2017 and by July I had lost 14kg and that's pretty weedy compared to some others. We are all individuals and need to find out what works for us.

Try not to get too stressed, stress can raise blood sugar levels.
 
Hi. I agree with @xfieldok. Forget measuring calories as the various slimming clubs do as it doesn't help. You need to reduce the carbs and have enough fat and protein to keep you feeling full. I'm confident it will help you lose weight and also control the blood sugar.

Read up on it first. Make sure it is something you want to try. Cutting out carbs is hard at first. They are addictive. I fell off the wagon a number of times. It took me just under 4 weeks to get rid rid of the carb cravings.

You don't need to rush out and buy recipe books. There are loads of recipes online.

Can I ask, sorry to be a pain, the first bloods I had I wasn’t told to fast for even though I did, would they have done a HbA1C test at the time or was it just blood glucose standard every day test that I had. Or are the two things the same. I need to do some reading.

You are not being a pain, we all started off where you are now.

The HbA1c which involves blood from the arm and sent to the lab measures glucose levels n the blood over the past 8-12 weeks.

Finger prick testing gives you a reading of how you stand right now. We tend to use finger prick testing to find out how are meals affect our levels. The higher the carbs, the higher the glucose level. And everyone is different in the way they tolerate carbs.
 
If you turn out to be diabetic or pre-diabetic, I would recommend you get yourself a meter. Ask on the forum and we can point you at the right ones.

In the meantime, keep asking questions, you are unlikely to ask anything we haven't asked ourselves.

How do you deal with the waiting, I’m now deciding are they say my cholesterol was high and not my sugar, I am literally driving myself mad. Any suggestions can you even have a cholesterol reading of 6.6 is it all linked. Is it because I’m fat,I think I’ll be pleased when I get my diagnosis and I’ll have something to work with
 
Waiting is always the worst! Your imagination runs riot. You only have to wait until Wednesday, you can do it.

Ignore cholesterol for the time being. Latest research indicates that cholesterol is not overly affected by what we eat. LCHf may raise cholesterol in the short term but it should settle. Mine is 6.8 but my ratios are normal to ideal.

Use your spare time to read around the forum, keep asking questions.

If you have had a second HbA1c test then your blood sugar will have been higher than normal.

Hi. Yes, don't worry too much about your cholesterol or the total. It's the various ratios that matter and make sure it's a fasting test to ensure the Trigs are valid. Cholesterol isn't linked to diabetes in any obvious way and it's the liver that decides what you cholesterol levels are and not what you eat.

Guess I gotta lot of learning to do. I think I am in denial. Hoping it’s all just a mistake, I will post when I get the diagnosis. Thank you all for being there
 
@Lisa haffy was the blood test you had one where a vial of blood was taken from your arm, or was it just the finger prick test which just gives a small blob of blood tested immediately on a blood glucose meter?
