Hi folks
Is beef jerky a good snack food?

The carbs seem good but I’ve been known to make mistakes so thought I’d check!

My local Lidl stocky both biltong and jerky most of the time. From memory (I always have to check!), the jerky has far fewer carbs than the others. The carbs come from the rubs, obviously. Just compare the packaging.

Obviously, if you are making your own jerky, you have total control over the carbs.

Wary though I am to disagree.. looking at quite a few different brands.. jerky seems to be sweeter than biltong which is usually spicy..Hardly any sugar in biltong and loads in jerky. But as always I could be wrong... boss...maybe...

Lidl stocks Kings brand - both Jerky and biltong. The jerky variety is pretty high in carbs (over 20g per 100g). They have had a couple of different Kings biltongs in over the years - the “ribeye beef” version was vey acceptable carbwise but my local Lidl then began to stock a different version, which is too high in carbs for my liking

No, you're probably right. As I said I always have to check the packaging, if I'm going to be buying any.

Lidl Aldi, Asda and Sainsbury’s all stock both. Biltong is invariably lower carb. Shame as I prefer the thicker texture of jerky.

A friend of mine makes biltong / jerky at his place, he does not use sugar in the marinades he uses.

I buy it from him and and it is nice hot and spicy and worth the the money he charges at $20.00 for three ziplock baggies, which the original wet weight was 1 kg.

A link to a thread I made a while back about it.

If you have a dehydrator you can make your own Biltong/jerky. It just takes a while. Mine can do it, but I haven't yet used it for that.

I completely missed these sorry.
I have been having the tesco bilbing ones. Think the carbs are under 5 from memory.

Bulkbiker - I was in Lidl yesterday and had a peep at both these. You were correct. I was befuddled in earlier post.
