Type 1'stars R Us

Mornin'

I hope you had a good weekend and were able to make the most of the bright but chilly days.

My weekend was one of highs and low ... but more lows that highs.

They started on Friday night after the gym. As usual, I had reduced my basal for gymming. When I finished, my BG had dropped but still in the 4s. I bought tea, walked home, cooked tea, put some washing on, bolused for tea and started eating. Then my partner asked where my diabetes kit was. I thought this odd but told him. Apparently, I was quite certain I was ok and did not need to test. I was wrong and ended up with a 2 hour hypo because I had bolused for tea but decided I didn't want it.
This is all very rare for me and was rather scary for both of us. I am still not sure why I went so low so quickly. The gym definitely had something to do with it but I had not gymmed with insulin on board, had not gymmed any harder than usual, had reduced my basal as usual and my BG was ok when I left.

I have not returned to the gym since but did spend Saturday ambling around the shops for Chrimbo shopping resulting in 15 miles of ambling and not much shopping.

Sunday was more relaxed with just an afternoon of leaf clearing. I think that may be the last for this year. I have filled the garden waste bin 3 times since the leaves started falling. And there are still some left on the trees.
One of the highs was to see a couple of Red Admirals pretending to be falling leaves but giving their identity away when they flew upwards when there wasn't a breeze to take them.

Woke with a slightly low BG this morning so hit it with a mango and a 'nana.
Hi @helensaramay, could it be the combination of gym plus the walk home, the lack of carbs at dinner after insulin and the approx. 6 hours after exercise uptake of glucose by your muscles which led to such an upset. (hindsight being 20:20 vision, of course)!! Best Wishes for a smoother week!!:):):), no shrug.

She was probably wearing the wrong colour socks, or something.

It was a hot 36 degrees in Adelaide town today. I am expecting the BSLs to be a bit lower with this heat.
With this weather keeping up one could in theory fry an egg on the bonnet or dashboard of a car.
A bit messy to actually do but still it goes to show how dangerously hot a car out in the open can get.
My carry around insulin travels with me with an ice brick nearby and its slip, slop, slap, seek and slide.
(Aussie sun protection campaign - slip on a shirt, slop on 50+ sunscreen, slap on a hat, seek shade,
slide on some sunglasses to which I add sip some water).
Baked crab anyone?? He is only blue due to colouring, not cold !!!

@helensaramay You can do the same thing religiously with t1 and get different results most times..

I also found a red admiral in the house yesterday morning, was quite lovely opening the window and seeing it fly away, then my daughter said it wouldn't last very long in the cold and I should of kept it indoors !! I think these things are best left to nature to decide !

@kitedoc - saw this and thought of you!

I need a goth reindeer in my life!

@helensaramay - they say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results. T1 is doing the same thing over and again and getting different results...

I don’t think I know that one, we usually go to the Outwoods, Beacon Hill and Bradgate Park. Must go and explore next time I’m in the area. I also mean to go back to Stonywell.

What no visits to Beaumanor Hall, at Woodhouse, then any injuries could be retired to Nanpantan, to the Burleigh's Gin Distillery?

We haven't gone for the gin tour yet, as we're up to 9864, and counting, on rock, paper, scissors for the designated driver role!

Seriously????? :eek::eek:

I have loads of socks the more outrageous the colours or design I will buy them, mainly because it annoys Mrs Knikki which is always fun :joyful::hilarious::hilarious:

Go on be adventurous, get some silly coloured socks and wear them even odd ones, brighten the day :D

Those of a certain age will remember psychedelic day-glow socks that were high fashion x number of decades ago - just saying!

At least silly coloured socks are easy to pair - you have no excuse to wear odd socks.

Think I have just been told off :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

I wear odd socks and odd boots sometimes both together :hilarious:

Oh goodness, no, not yet. I think the grandsons may still be a bit young for the outdoor activities but we have been to the various farms with animals play areas and walks and further north to Newstead Abbey in Notts, where we had to protect the peacocks from the youngest one. I think the distillery tour’s a must for the next visit! Taxi!

Hi @smc4761, So usual check done? insulin not been frozen or overheated (> 30 degrees C)? Any reason for insulin being less effective ? carbs up ?: symptoms of infection ? sniffles, cough, fever, sore tooth, shin infection?: injections into same area repeatedly which affects reliability of absorption?, increased stress or worry ? (and worry about rising, unresponsive BSLs to insulin counts as well)!!
I must admit I could not see much change in my BSLs unless, having excluded the above causes, I increased whatever seemed the appropriate insulin doses by at least 20 to 25%.
Please see what your DN advises. :):):)

Hi @kitedoc , all good with the insulin, feeling OK etc. Change the needle every time inject in different area each time so doing everything right as far as i know. Annoyingly its only from around 3 am until just after lunchtime. rest of the time BG are usually within range.

And of course went to bed last night with a 8.7 and had a perfectly flat night overnight, waking to a slight dip to 7.9 when i got up this morning

I have upped my ratio in morning to 1:3 which seems really high but made no difference spike wise. My 7.9 this morning had risen to 13.1 2.5 hours later. However it has now dropped back to 7.2, just before lunch which is where I expected it to be sort of ish

All i want is a bit of consistency, but being type 1 thats never gonna happen:arghh::arghh:
