Insulin Resistance

Yes that’s an issue for Thriva - IR is an add in option and you do need to sign on for regular tests although you can delay or withdraw but as you only wanted one check the way you chose def is the best. Now I’m so low in IR I’ll probably not Do IR again unless concerned. I do regular basics cholesterol test with Thriva which keep me informed about my progress and ratios and can add in tests of any type eg hbaca1 and may do this next time as will be halfway to next nhs hbaca1 test!

I’m quite interested in checking out vitamins and electrolytes, especially magnesium. This could become another expensive habit!

Remind me what the normal standard range is. Did you have a fasting glucose test? If you travelled to the Medicheks unit your liver could have been dumping like crazy, causing an insulin spike.

Hi. Thanks for the interest. My usual FBG range testing at home is between 4.4 and 5.2 - anything higher or lower is a surprise and in the 4.6 - 4.9 range most often.

Did have to travel to the clinic and the fasting glucose test done by the lab was 5.6, which is higher than I’d expect and a big jump from the 4.1 measured at home that morning (always have a rise in the morning but not usually such a big one), so yes liver probably dumping away and also a bit of anxiety as blood draws are often difficult and painful (although this one wasn’t).

Medichecks did say the test needed to be done before 10am, but I wonder what the result would be if I tested fasted later in the day - would assume that so long as only water had been consumed then the time of day isn’t so important.

Editing to correct - @Bluetit1802 I misread your question and thought you were asking for my standard range! According to the Medichecks info below 2 on the insulin resistance scale is normal. For the fasting insulin below 8 is good but around 4 to 5 better and I think at least a score of 1 or you’d be type 1! So mine is quite high.

I feel for you with the blood draws ... I too have had this problem for years ... when a needle appears, my veins go flat, even when I am not feeling at all stressed ... has led to many difficult episodes in the past ... once in a Panama hospital it took one hour and two nurses and two doctors to get blood ... luckily the nurses in my surgery have got used to it and can manage it beautifully now
