Saw the nurse...

The really awesome thing is that private gets you the same operating theatre, same surgeon, same theatre staff, same medical instruments, same hospital, same operating table as used by NHS customers.......oh and you also get a room to yourself and your own nurse who doesn’t mind smiling on account of her wages you are funding :)
Absolutely :( Also remember you also get Ian Paterson when you go private:yuck: ...just saying:eek:
unfortunately you don't get the same level of oversight ,which why the likes of Ian Paterson could carry on and indulge his sick depraved tendency.

Indeed it is but some idiots have to pay for it sometime...and as you may be able to tell, value for money is one thing I have yet to see...
The biggest outlay from the NHS to the majority of UK citizens is in birth and end of life care, if you have a long term condition this makes it even better value for money. I think you're probably doing ok regarding what you've paid in what you'll get out of the NHS.

Well I was born in my parents' bedroom in 1962 and have never spent any time in a hospital and hope never to ( i think I had a broken arm set in the late 70's after my mother had made me sleep on it until morning after falling down the stairs at about 2 am). I have found most of the GP's and DN's I have met to be either completely useless or so closed minded that change seems impossible for them to even consider. I fully intend to end my life at a time of my choosing too.. so as far as I can seen the return on my investment will be pretty poor.. still hope some of you others can get some value out of it.

ok I guess you're not one of the majority I was referring to and somewhat 'on the fringe' in your outlook. I wish you good health

I have not received any benefit from what I paid into the NHS pre 1970, I think my NHS card is still valid as I was supposed to hand it it when I left the UK but did not.

@bulkbiker . I sincerely hope that you never have need of the NHS.
As a T1 I am very reliant on the NHS on many fronts.
Ignoring the diabetes. They saved my life at a very young age, long before I had actually made any contributions. They have also provided a few other not life threatening but much appreciated services.
But here’s the thing. The reason I love and value the NHS so much is simple.
1. Ensuring the birth of my first daughter, who may have died at birth without medical intervention.
2. Providing unbelievable professionalism in dealing with a lump my wife found in her breast.
3. Removing the growth in my grandsons neck when he was so young.
I could carry on. My point is that the NHS isn’t just about me but it’s also about the people I love and cherish.
If you have not had someone you love receive vital NHS treatment then you are extremely lucky or unlucky in life.

The NHS is an insurance scheme. Complaining that you didn't get value for money is like complaining that a life insurance policy was a waste of money because you didn't die. Everyone pays through taxes, some people get the benefit of free treatment, some people have the benefit of not needing it, seems fair to me.

I would think a logical realist would get the trade off of inputting and getting outputs but realise nothing is perfect
I'm afraid I and my family have experienced for the most part pretty second rate service from "Our NHS". I was in the process of writing a long and detailed post but it was such a tale of woe I stopped..
I was very lucky to be in the position that I had to pay quite a lot of tax when I was working so stumped up quite happily as a true champagne socialist.. as I have aged I have slightly amended my viewpoint and realise that a whole lot of that money has been wasted by profligate politicians who are never really accountable for their actions. I'm afraid that has made me grow older, wiser and far more cynical than my younger self.

Our experiences shape our views so I respect yours, my NHS experience is so far thankfully good. Take care of yourself @bulkbiker and as before I wish you good health.
p.s. I agree with you on the politician accountability front!

I find myself smiling. The type of response I would have expected from a politician.

I have have never had anything but excellent care from the NHS other than the rubbish dietary guidance when first diagnosed with T2. It has saved my life on 2 occasions at which time the consultants, nurses, doctors and other staff were brilliant. I have never failed to be referred for tests and investigations by GPs, I have been referred for all the available cancer screening tests, one of which did save my life, my diabetes care (apart from the diet) has been excellent, and my breast cancer care was second to none. When I was working I had private medical insurance through work, but never used it because the NHS was there for me.
I paid my taxes and national insurance for 40 years and still pay my taxes, but I reckon I have had my money's worth.

lol! I fear there is a lack of humour on this forum sometimes, we all get it's a serious topic but I'll keep my pitchfork in the shed
Haha. You at least understand. We are all coping with this horrible disease. I am no different. It was an amusing appointment that is all. I really didn't mean to offend so many especially with my foot remark. I am new to this. I failed to understand what she was doing to be honest. I expect to be burned at the stake any day now.

My response was purely to explain why things are done that can seem quite bizarre / heath robinson at first glance, not to have a pop.
Ive been having them done for over 20 years and it took some time before I know what the heck they were up to

Exactly. That was the odd part. Is the vague attitude. It just amused me a little.

Do they still do that where you live?:)
