Type 1'stars R Us

The "choon" was written in 1907. The lyrics some 30 years later?

Yup, that would make them after Teddy R’s presidency. 1937? Edward VIII abdicated Dec 1936. Could it have been his picnic? With the fragrant Wallis?

Leonardo’s ( other cafes are available ) near to the George Eliot statue. :)

Ah, I'd forgotten about that one! I wasn't often around long enough to get into the town centre, unless the trains were cancelled. I was well-known enough to the station staff that they would tell me as I walked into the station if I was going to have a long wait! Also well known enough that they would look after my work ID badge and hand it back to me if it had fallen out of a pocket...

I loved my job there, but didn't want to move there as I love where I live, and only got an equally much-loved job nearer to home some years ago, when the train fares went up by too much for me to afford them anymore along with salary not matching all the price rises of everything.

Now you got me thinking about this tune... Lol, it was a favourite "whistler" for my mum, but I always felt there were darker conotations in the lyrics?
I felt it had something to do with the fur coat fashion of the time & maybe a sexist "backlash" from certain quarters regarding women getting the vote...?
Certainly an odd creepy song.

When I pop to Nuneaton, I rarely make it into town. I'm usually there to go to the Dunelm shop, as it's my closest, or to catch a train, although these days parking is just so much better from Rugby, for London trains.

Back from the woods. Not a bear to be seen, but there was a jaunty flock of bluetits raiding the larch cones.
Went on for lunch at the nearest pub. Disappointed. It used to be a real village pub, gossiping locals, lots of banter, cheerful and full at weekends but now it’s an aspirational restaurant-pub with a good chef - the soup was lovely, so was the bread and marmite cream cheese, but I miss the banter.

I am quite beyond hope... Six Nations Rugby season is upon us, I have carefully checked my blood sugars, two hours after lunch and after singing "Flower of Scotland" and will check again at half time and at the (SQUEEE - 2nd try!!) end. It's all scientific research, honest.

Popped in to see an early showing of that new Nicole Kidman movie Destroyer earlier today. She's an undercover cop infiltrating a group of bank robbers and it all goes very very wrong. Very dark movie, no happy Hollywood endings, well worth a watch. I'm not up to speed with her filmography, but it's a brave bit of glamming down instead of glamming up. Kinda like Charlize Theron in Monster.

Fancied a change from my usual tub of Haagen Dazs. Sweet popcorn is just a bit too heavy going on the carb front, even for a non-low carber like me, and the salt one is just too salty, but the cinema had bags of Joe & Sephs gourmet popcorn, hadn't seen them before, so thought I'd treat myself to one of those, Mature Cheddar Cheese flavour.

Only about 17g per pouch compared to 40 or so for the caramel ones.

Four quid so a bit of a pocket hit, but, hey, it's the movies and they scored pretty highly on the nom nom scale.

Having a browse through their product list just now. An eclectic mix! Prosseco, camembert, marmite, goats cheese, gin and tonic, truffle etc. etc.

So, the results of the scientific experiment are in!
  • 5.1 before lunch,
  • 6.8 before the Scotland match, (2 hours after lunch)
  • 8.6 at half time,
  • 8.3 at the end,
  • hour's walk pre-evening meal to get me back to 5.1
I will repeat the experiment for the next matches which start at 14.15.

A different approach may be needed for England v. Scotland - 5.00 p.m. kick off, last match of the series, always the most stressful of the lot!

We have apouch of the G&T variant awaiting some close inspection, but we're not great snackers. My OH's daughter recommends it though.
