Happy birthday @Scott-C mum. Born same year as my mum who is 80 in October. Looks like you did her proud!
A big year in our family, mum 80 me 60 (Not yet!) parents diamond and our Ruby wedding.
Have had a hypo nearly every night for a fortnight. Jelly babies are my bed buddy these days. Have been reducing my basal gradually. Last night, no hypo. Up to 16! For goodness sake. No chocolate was in this mix as apart from my daily square of 90% I no longer eat sweets/chocolate. Might as well have stuffed my face! In fact, as per usual last item of food past my lips was about 4pm. I am a pretty optimistic person and always see tomorrow as another day, slate wiped clean and off we go. But to be quite frank am feeling a little defeated. The effort required to knock that high reading on the head before I could eat my berry and yoghurt 10 carb breakfast was beyond a joke. Think I am better off with the nightly Jelly Babies. Grr!
And relax!!

Well, it was my mum's 80th birthday yesterday, we had lunch at the uber-bling gothic Secret Garden at the Witchery by the Castle - another thing which affects bg: the adrenalin rush from looking at a scarily expensive 20 page long wine menu, where some of the bottles were around £2000, maxing out at £3600, so I made darned sure I got my mitts on it before my dad did so I could be sure we got something under a hundred quid but still trying not to look like a cheapskate - well, I am Scottish after all..

I got her two cards, one saying 80, the other 21, so she could take her pick of ages - gues which one she chose, lol! I've never really thought about age much, she says she's obviously noticed the physical signs of aging, hip replacement and so on, but in her mind still has a go at life as if she was in her twenties.

The staff did their job, particularly the Kiwi who said, "oh go on, you're never 80, I was reckoning 55!"

She's still racing around in her Mini like a sportscar driver. I was going to get her a voucher to have a go in a Ferrari at Knockhill but she's recently had some cataract surgery so fast things are out of the picture at the moment.

Dad had booked them into the Edinburgh Grand, an old bank building in the centre of Edinburgh, recently renovated but the developer has kept true to the period detail.

All in all a good day - they were born and bred in Edinburgh but live in Fife now, so they enjoy getting back to their old haunts as tourists.

What a lovely day you and your Dad gave your Mum, Scott. Hopefully it can be repeated, or a variation of it, in another 10 years.

The Grand looked fab when I was up there in November.

Had a fab day out with the steampunks, got photographed a fair bit... :D

Bloods were a little low early on but went a bit high after lunch, I suspect I underestimated the carbs in my strawberries a bit. Back home now, made a low carb hot crossless bun and am back in the low fours. A very gentle evening ahead!

Cheers! I was kidding her on that in ten years time she'll be so doo-lally that I'll just be able to download a few meal and hotel pics and say now that was a lovely day we had, wasn't it?

Good evening all.
Happy birthday to Scott’s mum. @Scott-C your meal out sounds like it was a fab occasion , not sure I could have done the wine list.:):):).
@Mel dCP . Looking good:)
@helensaramay . An ice cream with no insulin.......had a mental picture of the ice cream man running through the list of available toppings......” would madam like a flake, razz, sprinkles, insulin...? “:)

@Robinredbreast . Hope Bournemouth was a great day out and maybe a 99 just for fun.:)
Enjoy the bank holiday tomorrow everyone.

Happy Birthdee Mummy-C. She looks and sounds like I ant to be at her age.

@smc4761 sorry to read about your nasty hypo. When I went on the pump, I as told I no longer need to treat a hypo it’s slow acting carbs like biscuits. I just pile the GlucoTabs in. The number of g-tabs depends on the BG number and, f I am Libred, the direction of the arrow.

This morning I dressed in an eclectic selection of sports gear: cycling top, gym leggings and walking boots: and set off for a hike around the Wye. Along some rivers, up some valleys and through some woodland. The sky was blue all day and so was the bluebell haze in the woods. We walked about 10 miles and had a grand time.
Towards the end, I took my bg. It was 4.1 and falling. I ate an ice cream with no insulin and the BG returned to 5.2. I explained to my boyfriend that was a “free ice cream”. He looked a little confused.

Hi @helensaramay I had not really thought about that. So basically hypos should mainly be treated with fast acting carbs, eg gluco tabs/jelly babies etc. Maybe thats why i am having such huge spikes after a hypo. I am piling in the sugar, as fast acting carbs but also 20/30 g of slower acting carbs eg ginger nuts

She sounds like she has more fight left in her than would take that. Sounds like a great woman.

Before libre, I used to totally overdo hypo treatments and then get on that up/down rollercoaster.

After libre, I realised very small amounts can sort out most minor hypos - it's astonishing what a couple of dextrotabs, about 6g, will do to nudge levels up if you catch the drop at around 4.5.

I use the cgm to catch dropping levels before they get to hypo land - sometimes, depending on how hard a drop it is, I'll be going for the dextrotabs, but very often if I see a slow glide down heading in the direction of 4, a 10g Kinder Bueno or a few fingers of dark chocolate Kit-Kat or a quick swig of apple juice will be good for a nudge up without the acceleration which dextrotabs sometimes give - sweeties like Kit-Kat etc. are normally not advised for full on hypos because of the fat slowing down digestion, but in the right circumstances, a slow glide down when still above 4, they're pretty good because the slower digestion matches the slower glide down, and they're a nice wee treat too!

Evening all.

@Mel dCP looking good, you ever been to the Goth festivals in Whitby?

@Scott-C Happy Birthday to your mam.

Things here ok part from before lunch hypo tasting  so stuffed face recovered and off out me went. Had to recalibrate xDrip and it still out by 1 point ~sigh~ least I know so can deal with it.

Sat here listening to Psychedelic Furs which is rather good, bought because I like the cover :hilarious:
I haven’t, but I really should!

I just stick to dextrose tablets too - one will raise me by 0.6mmol, so I dose to come up in exactly the same way I calculate insulin to bring me down. Two tabs and a temp basal of 0% for half an hour usually does the trick.

Just come back from witnessing an Easter egg hunt on a golf course in North Devon..

"Hunger games" anyone? Lol. Hot day. The spoils were melted. :banghead:

I love my on loan Libre, just love it :)

Hi, I hope you all had a great Easter Sunday, Bournemouth was lovely, then we popped along to Boscombe, had dinner at a Toby Carvery in Christchuch, the day was lovely, really beautiful hot weather and not a cloud in the sky, enjoyed it very much and home now safe and sound.
Off out somewhere else tomorrow afternoon
So I will say goodnight now, I hope you all sleep tight zzzzzzzzzz

Toby Carvery? Gosh, I didn't know they still existed!

I hope you get it on script, RRB. I've learned more about subtle little ways of managing T1 in the last 3 yrs of using it than I ever did before in the previous 27 yrs, purely because I can now see what my bg is doing instead of the guesswork with strips. There's going to be a point where ccgs say, doh, face-palm, why didn't we do this earlier?

Trick is to learn by how much say 4g carb raises your blood. Then because there's 4g carb per glucotab, and 8 gm per Oaty biccie etc you can work out exactly how many biccies you need to eat to come back up. Eat the food and then test again in 10 minutes. You can always eat 4g more. But don't go wild eating unless you're so low you can't think straight and just basically open the fridge and dive in.

I really hope you're right about the 'why didn't we do this earlier' reaction; history shows that the NHS is incredibly poor at investing to save. I know that there's a debate about whether Libre actually costs CCGs much more than test strips since Libre costs CCGs a lot less than it costs us to buy, so that should be factored in as well. I want to be optimistic....

I have seen trends already, whether BG is staying level or going up or down. It has been so beneficial to me, I can't praise it high enough. It has been a godsend, especially at work on Saturday and the lady from the company I was working with scanned me, she thought it was  too. Love it
