usual food and a bit more active routine today but nothing extreme and I just got an 8.3 nearly 4 hrs post dinner! I only occasionally see a 7 let alone an 8. I’ve sneezed quite a few times today but otherwise feel totally fine so I guess I could be incubating something. I also just had a looong hot bath. Anyone reckon it’s the bath?

Don’t know about bath raising blood glucose , I would guess you maybe have a virus

Or it’s just one of those diabetic moments.

Did you retest straight away to be sure it wasn’t a dodgy strip?

Accuchek mobile so a cartridge. Retested then and got a 8.1. Just went to check times and accidentally triggered another test instead of checking the data so it’s now down to 7.8. Not rogue. Just unexplained

Did you keep testing half hourly to see how long it took to drop?
First was 2130 (8.3). Second 2230 (7.8) so it’s dropping now a bit. It was a little higher late afternoon now I think about it but dropped again before dinner to normal. Looking like I’m going to wake up with a lurgy :(

Yes, I think a lurgy is on its way. Did you say you were sneezing earlier? Hay Fever is prevalent at the moment, and according to something I read recently, we now have super pollen that is affecting those not normally hay fever sufferers

Mmm. Not sure which I’d rather have. Yes definitely had some sneezes earlier. I do get hay fever a bit but not normally this early, more like late July usually. We’ll see what morning brings. Come to think of it I don’t think I’ve actually been ill with a bug since diagnosis/testing/low carb/keto.

Serious question - can being sick raise your blood glucose? I've freaked out because mine has gone from 4's and 5's to 6's and 7's when it feels like I haven't "done" anything bad to cause that. But I have noticed a sore throat and some cold symptoms in the last few days, could that have anything to do with it?

Yep it can.

I’m feeling ok today and had a normalish reading just before bed last night but a top end of normal this morning. I’ve decided to just be extra careful on the carbs today and see what the day brings.

Wouldn’t be too concerned with one or two rogue tests here or there, but you’re right to interrogate it. Shows vigilance in testing and due diligence in interpreting the data. Critical skills in mastering diabetes :pompous: :nurse:

PS. If you do get sick then I hope you feel better soon :***:

Sounds like the consensus is a bit of an outlier for some reason.

Just in terms of hot baths? I'm a shower gal myself, but I do know there has been discussion about the impacts of hot tubs/jacuzzis on blood glucose. Generally, the bloods go down a bit, although in my little head I wonder if that's the warm water specifially, or the fact the person is taking time for themselves, to sit in one place and relax for a while.

I know @Brunneria took one for the team some time ago, whilst wearing a Libre to explore her own results. Based on findings, and liking the experience, I have a feeling she may have repeated this research a number of times since. :)

Haha!
Yes indeed.
I am good like that.
For me, hot tubs drop my bg by about 1mmol/l for the duration of the soak, and for a period (30 mins?) after.

I suspect (and it is only speculation since I have no means to test the theory), that the heat improves circulation in the extemeties while also decreasing insulin resistance, allowing more glucose uptake.

There is a study (much quoted by hot tub vendors) showing that regular HT use lowers blood pressure and overall blood glucose management.
And then there are warnings (much quoted by people who donkt like hot tubs) that anyone with neuropathy should take extreme care when getting into hot water, especially hot tubs.

Hi @HSSS ,

Just thought I'd throw this into the mix..
I use an Accuchek Mobile. I find min reads 15% higher than the calibrated NHS issue.
The Diaconnect app I log my BGs with always estimates my A1c 15% higher than the lab report too. ;)

I’ve pretty much always use the accuchek mobile so even if it typically reads high I am only comparing it with itself so yesterday was comparatively higher for me. I forgot to bring my meter out with me today so not sure what’s happening today yet beyond a highest morning reading. I’ll check this evening when I get in. It does seem that the bath would have lowered rather than raised bgl if anything so likely discounted as a reason.
