Hello

I know that T1 will more than likely thing that I am talking rubbish but here it goes.

I was today looking at insulin therapy for T2D as I a currently on fast acting insulin.
I came across a few articles that reported a link between T2Ds and higher risk of CVD especially heart attacks. I’m currently at risk of heart attacks due to PCOS but I’m wondering if anyone else, knows about it.

I am in all honesty, loving the insulin. No toilet episodes and my BG is normal during the day (Although I can get high readings if dinner was carb heavy)

Is the HA/CVD issue something that people have heard of? Should I be worried? As I said, this link seems to be with T2D and not T1.

Thanks
NC

High bg increases risk for any kind of CVD, regardless of type of diabetes, as it damages small blood vessels. Hence the risk of damage to eyes and kidneys. And diabetes (whatever type) usually comes with high bg, although we have many members on here with normal levels. The average diabetic doesn't have levels as low as read in this forum.
Besides bg levels there may be more at play with diabetes and CVD, but as far as I know not much is known about it. Possibly because there simply isn't enough data about diabetics who've had healthy bg levels for years. You need a lot of followed people to come up with usable data.

Hi NaijaChick,
Yes I have heard of it - it is hard to avoid it since it is all over the media plus my GP keeps reminding me and pushing me to take larger doses of statins.

Do I believe that there is a direct causational link ? - I don't know, but what I do know is that there is much 'so called medical research' based entirely on coincidence. My GP has actually lied to me about Statins, LDL Cholesterol and Salt in addition to giving terrible dietary advice for T2D.

So am I sceptical ? - Oh yes I am , about everything, until I see decent evidence.

I have had a triple Coronary Artery Bypass over 2yrs ago, so in a way I am betting with my health/life when I take decisions about my diet/lifestyle.

Having said all that, I believe that High BG which leads to high Insulin in both T1D and T2D is not a good thing but some people have less choice than others about use of Insulin.

Hi @NaijaChick

I recommend that you have a good look on youtube for the talks that Ivor Cummins (aka the Fat Emperor) gives.
Particularly the ones on hyperinsulinaemia and insulin restance, and heart health.

They are very informative, and very well researched and you can always follow up on the references.

Here is a link to his youtube vids

As you can see from the video titles, he has examined this subject in detail
