So, I have a hill to climb! It’s been soooo difficult over this holiday to maintain my low carb regime and I know a few pounds have crept back on. Family, friends and visitors have served to upset my routine. How do others manage?

I've told people that I'm intolerant of c arbs so I can't eat them. I've told a few friends that I'm a diabetic. I'll be honest and say that when I was diagnosed I was too ashamed to tell everyone so I went with intolerant to carbs.

I'm still not ready to tell everyone but I do tell them that my asthma has gone with the keto diet. Given the current air quality in Australia particularly around where I live if my asthma were still as usual I would be in hospital. One woman has died from breathing the air.

So I haven't yet fallen off the wagon. I'm not being smug though as I'm a relative newbie and some days I find it really difficult. I get a lot of support from my husband and kids though.

I left the country for a week.

I didn’t see a single sausage roll, mince pie, Christmas cake or Christmas pud. Out of sight out of mind.

Praia da Rocha, Portugal, Algarve. I like the coastline there, the weather was 18 degrees C and the hotel was good. Only the second time I have done that and I discovered it’s a good way of avoiding typical UK Christmas carbs which I have always been fond of in the past. In the past I used to chomp my way through huge amounts of mince pies over Christmas.
